A taste of the world's most consumed spirit
Feb 2017 • Friends
Vinn makes baijiu, which in Chinese languages means "white alcohol." It is the kind made in South China and Vietnam, primarily derived from rice. The Chinese describe the taste as "xiang" which means "fragrant." Many would say this spirit calls for an acquired taste, and I have acquired it. Vinn also makes a rice vodka that is very good. Because it is made from rice it is gluten free. This does not impress me but the vodka does.

Good drinks with a knowledgeable host

We stopped here for a tasting and were very pleased with all the samples we were provided. The host is very friendly and knows his booze as well as the history of the distillery. Well worth the cost of the tasting.

Rice

This was a great find on our distillery tour. It's a smaller operation, and family run except for our host who is the only non-family employee. Their products are rice based and quite unique, especially the Baijiu ("bye joe"). The tasting fee included 4 samples and also two samples of cocktails made with their spirits. I recommend including this stop on your distillery tour.

A great place to enjoy a flight of spirits. Vodkas and whiskies were a delight to a parched tongue. Definitely no prohibition here. Bartender told a tale about the family's history. Fun place to spend a little time after work or on a weekend. Facility could handle a large group of 10 people or so.
