Welcome aboard Marine Discovery Tours - Oregon's #1 Whale & Sea Life...

Welcome aboard Marine Discovery Tours - Oregon's #1 Whale & Sea Life Cruise! Whether you're traveling solo or with a group, we'd love to share our "Floating Adventure" endorsed by the Oregon Coast Aquarium.

Teams of professional and friendly captains and naturalists tell stories that range from gray whales and other coastal sea life to the seasons of Oregon's largest fishing fleet! Fun activities await, as "volunteer deckhands" help with catch and release crabbing, plankton pulls with microscope viewing and navigation lessons. We are local experts who are passionate about delivering a fun, safe activity - you can count on our captain's seasoned knowledge to find the calmest routes on our ocean, bay and river ecosystems.

We specialize in marine education field trips for over 7,000 students, annually. Tour groups love our "stretch limo" vessel with a heated cabin for all, seating and complimentary coffee and tea! We're happy to offer exclusive charters for Special Events from reunions to Celebrations of Life/Ashes at Sea - take over the Discovery as your own!

Our cruise season is March - October - advance reservations are always a good idea!

My colleague and I used Discovery Tours as part of a field trip when we both taught science. Not only was it fun, but reinforced the concepts we studied in our ocean and life science units. I've also enjoyed whale watch with my wife during the summer. It's a trip young and old alike can enjoy and learn from.

Over the top in sightings of whales, knowledge of all marine life from Annie, fun time with the crab pots, just a perfect way to spend a few hours learning about Newport, Oregon and enjoying a pleasant cruise in the ocean. Recommend it for a "must do" on your visit to this friendly beach town. And the best pilot around... More

This was a great time for the whole family. The captain and crew were very friendly, knowledgeable and allowed us to be hands-on. My kids loved sitting in the captain's chair. The vessel is very large and zero of the eight of us experienced sea sickness.

Caveat: The Marine Discovery Boat Tour is not one of those whale-watching focused excursions that use radar to track, follow and sometimes intimidate whales. However, as part of your ocean experience, you will possibly site some with the help of the Captain who is always on the lookout for all types of sea life (mammals and birds). On a beautiful... We started out in sunshine and then sailed into a fog bank in the (rough) ocean. We did manage to site some spouts and a fin and back of a Grey WHale, but it was so misable the captain turned back in to the sunny and smooth harbor to finish the tour. May crabs were caught and the kids got... More

Crew was knowledgeable and friendly and the experiences provided were varied and first rate. The microphone system they used made it possible to easily hear everything that was said no matter where you were on the boat. We especially loved standing at the bow and "riding the waves"! Was a beautiful day to be out and we even saw a... More

Our family originally booked the tour hoping to see whales, unfortunately we were unable to find any. We still had a tremendous time. We had our two girls (10 yrs & 13 mo.) with us and they both had a blast out on the Pacific Ocean! The crew was terrific. We are definitely going to do it again -- hopefully... More

The crew was truly remarkable and so personable! I felt like my family and I got to see a lot of everything, from Bald Eagles to migrating Grey Whales! The experience was fully entertaining as well as educational!

If you don't do anything else while in Newport, take this tour! The crew obviously loves their job, as they were enthusiastic and answered all of our questions. They tailor the tour to current conditions, and we lucked out and saw whales putting on an amazing show. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed Marine Discovery Tours!

When we booked the tour we inquired multiple times if whale watching was included. We were told yes repeatedly. When we arrived indeed the staff was friendly and the ship is clean and nice. When we booked we were NOT told we would be part of a middle school field trip (literally). There was one other family and about 40... More

Hi, Jeff - We always appreciate feedback from our guests. Your comments are a bit puzzling due to our reservation system that is designed to explain all aspects of each departure, including a field for joining student group programs. These tend to be popular in the springtime for visitors due to the "aquarium camp" feel with a marine education focus... More
