Such a beautiful place for a memorial for those who have been lost at sea! The benches are beautiful! The personal pictures of people who have lost their lives doing what they love the most! The big memorial has most names engraved on it. It is in the middle of beautiful walking paths here at the Yaquina Bay. It also offers a beautiful view of the ocean! It gives on the reminder to never turn your back on the ocean at any time!

I've gone to the nearby Yaquina Bay lighthouse on tours before, but one day I just happened to notice the small sanctuary nearby so I decided to go have a look. There are places to sit down, and an altar in the front. On top of the altar, people leave pictures of their loved ones who were lost at sea, and also flowers and other mementos. For many people, this is the only place they have to grieve their loved one if the body wasn't recovered, so I think it is a very good thing that this sanctuary was built in their memory. Seeing this memorial and watching shows like the Deadliest Catch has given me a whole new appreciation for those men and women who risk their lives to put the food on our tables, that's for sure.

The Fishermen's Memorial sanctuary is inside a structure.
There are a lot of wooden benches.
At the top, there are pictures of these fishermen who drowned.
In memory of those we loved.
Worthwhile to see

This memorial is in a covered pavilion and a quiet place to meditate. Read about those that have given their lives in the ocean.
Bathrooms are located and open to the public. There are tables and benches located in the pavilion and a place to enjoy reading or your lunch.
It is located in a great place for taking pictures of the bay.

While visiting the park during a rain storm, my wife and I sought shelter in the sanctuary. How fitting it was to be reminded of those who couldn't reach sanctuary during storms at sea. This would be a nice place to have memorial services and other activities that provided a chapel-like setting with permanent benches, etc.

Happened upon this Memorial as I was walking through the state park. It is a very nice building, chapel like, to remember the fishermen who have lost their lives at sea.

This is a moving experience to see this memorial to local fishermen who gave their lives to do what they loved. While television programs like "Deadliest Catch" show the excitement of the fishing industry, this memorial reminds us of how dangerous it really us and how dedicated these people are to risk their lives every day to feed their families and the rest of us.

We happened upon the sanctuary after visiting the lighthouse. It is a memorial to people who have died at sea. It was a solemn reminder that the beauty of the ocean comes with danger and sadness for many families.

One doesn't think about the perils associated with fishing in occasionally dangerous waters, but this memorial to those lost provides an opportunity to consider them and think about the work these souls do to feed themselves and others. Worth stopping.
