While visiting the park during a rain storm, my wife and I sought shelter in the sanctuary. How fitting it was to be reminded of those who couldn't reach sanctuary during storms at sea. This would be a nice place to have memorial services and other activities that provided a chapel-like setting with permanent benches, etc.

Happened upon this Memorial as I was walking through the state park. It is a very nice building, chapel like, to remember the fishermen who have lost their lives at sea.

An honor to all of the fishermen who have given their lives to feed all of us and their families. Worth a stop.

We were taking our morning walk and came upon the memorial. Inside there are wooden benches with plaques with names of some of the fisherman lost at sea. There is a large black stone memorial with a list of names of fisherman who lost their lives while at sea. It also marks the names of fisherman who's remains were recovered.... More

This is a moving experience to see this memorial to local fishermen who gave their lives to do what they loved. While television programs like "Deadliest Catch" show the excitement of the fishing industry, this memorial reminds us of how dangerous it really us and how dedicated these people are to risk their lives every day to feed their families... I briefly stopped at the sanctuary while waiting for my family, and was both moved and touched by this memorial to those lost at sea out of Newport and surrounding ports. It is a place of peace and respite - something of a relief from all the touristy spots around. In the face of all the negativity surrounding over-fishing etc,... More

We stopped by here after passing the lighthouse and it was very pleasant. It is a nice reminder of those who risk their lives doing what they love and what they must.

Many people leave flowers in this sanctuary, more than the other sanctuaries in this area. It's close to the bridge, many picnic tables are around it. Wonderful view of the bay from the park.
