Parking is at a premium & you have to use caution on the narrow street w cars parked on both sides. Several shops & a few restaurants. Entertaining to watch the sea lions in the harbor.

Whenever we visit Newport, a visit to the historic Bayfront is a must. Unlike many other 'historic' waterfront areas in other cities or towns, this area remains very much a working port, where a fishing fleet is based and where their catches are unloaded and...More

Didn't know what to expect when we traveled to Oregon. It was only our second time in the state but our first trip to their beautiful coast. We drove downtown after eating at Georgie's at Nye Beach (great food!). Although parking was an issue we...More

My friend and I spent an entire afternoon at Newport's historic bayfront. There are lots of interesting shops to explore, restaurants, galleries, a wax museum, an arcade, and undersea "gardens". We had fun shopping for souveniers, eating ice cream, and watching the sea lions.

A soul stirring experience in an active fishing and crabbing community! Everyone is friendly and ready to help you understand how, what, and why they do what they do! Fabulous, historical, and beautiful!

Really worth visiting, even if finding a park is like winning the lottery. Full of wonderful little shops and restaurants, quaint bars and even tourism type stores. Very pretty overlooking the water and the impressive bridge into town. The sea lions are worth the visit...More

You definitely need to see this part of Newport . Right under the big bridge . It's very historic . it's a working commercial fishing port , mixed with somewhat cheesy touristy goop , with a few good restaurants . Tight driving and tight parking...More

Very interesting place to visit. There are the restaurants and shops along the historic Bayfront which is the main reason for the tourists to be there. Then there is the world of the fisherman and sailor, both professional and amateur. There is usually something taking...More

We walked through the shops, had beers and laughs and enjoyed great meals while visiting the bayfront recently. It is a great way to spend an afternoon. Plenty to do!

There are at least two docks on the north side of the bay (where the sea lions congregate) where you can fish and crab.

I also saw people with fishing gear on the pier. I would sure check the local laws or risk a fine and confiscation of your stuff. Google would be a good start.
