Just a bit disappointed
Oct 2021 • Couples
We enjoyed our tasting visit even though we were seated outside on an open bar on a cold overcast morning. To be honest I was disappointed that there was no overhead covering and no patio heaters like many other smaller wineries.
Mark the manager was full of winery knowledge and willing to share. He wanted to find out what our palettes liked and we tasted a variety of Pinot’s.
We take winery trips to many regions and I’ve read so many glowing reviews of Adelsheim Pinot, however until we got into their selections which cost over $100/bottle we just didn’t care for what was on the tasting list. We only bought 2 bottles and with tasting fee spent over $200. Overall I feel the value just wasn’t there.

I am very impressed. My wife and I were tasting in Willamette Valley and came across Adelsheim Vineyard based on a recommendation of a friend who went to “Pinot school” in the Willamette Valley area. We made reservations for a tasting but arrived about 30 minutes early. We were greeted with a tasting of Rose and took a seat on the patio to enjoy the sunshine while we waited. Since we still had some time to kill before our actual reservation time my wife and I decided to walk up to the bar and get a glass of wine while we waited. The folks working the bar area were beyond friendly and helpful to allow my wife and I to taste a few different options so we could decide which glasses of wine we would enjoy while we were waiting for our reservation. We adjourned back to the patio to enjoy our glasses of wine in the beautiful sunshine. We were called for our reservation on time and seated along the rail overlooking the vines excited for our tasting to begin. Unfortunately about 15 minutes passed and no one greeted us. This was unfortunate but the winery was very busy and I’m sure they are dealing with staffing issues like the rest of the service industry. My wife and I decided to leave as we had already tasted a few wines and thoroughly enjoyed the glasses of wine we had picked out while we were waiting. As we were leaving a gentleman on staff noticed we hadn’t been helped and offered to take care of us personally. We declined as we were satisfied with our visit and needed to move on to our next reservation. I was most impressed by what happened next. As we were driving to our next stop I got a phone call from Mark, the tasting room manager. He had heard about our experience and wanted to reach out personally to apologize. I informed him that we were not upset and had actually enjoyed our visit and the wine. He thanked me for my feedback and asked if we would like to return in the future for a complimentary tasting. Unfortunately we were only in the valley that day and would not be able to return. He apologized again and asked which wines my wife and I enjoyed the most and offered to send us something. I told him it really wasn’t necessary and I appreciated his follow up. Having worked in the service industry for years I know mistakes happen but how you recover makes all the difference. He echoed my point and said that for him it wasn’t just about the tasting room experience but they were trying to establish customers for life. What a refreshing perspective especially during covid when the attitude seems to be get your stuff and get out. When we arrived back home Mark had sent us 2 bottles of wine , mine and my wife’s favorite bottles from our tasting experience. Needless to say Mark has made us customers for life and we will return to the vineyard when in the area but we will also order wine direct and purchase when we are lucky enough to see it on the shelves in the Austin area. My wife and I shared a bottle of Pinot that we found at Whole Foods last night. Thank you Mark and thank you Adelsheim for allowing your managers and staff to do what they can to retain customers. It means everything to me.

Fabulous wines and views
Aug 2021 • Couples
What a way to start off our three day tasting in Willamette valley. Adelsheim is one of the first wineries in the Chehalem mountains. They are celebrating their 50th year! Paul was THE PERFECT “host”. Knowledgeable, funny and friendly. He took us through the standard tasting and then brought out additional wines based on our preferences. He also brought out additional glasses so we could do some side-by-side tastings. I think when we were done there were over 25 glasses on the table for four of us!!! On total we were there 2 1/2 hours. Oh, and by the way Their wines were AMAZING!!!!! Perfect start to the morning.

Excellent place to end a day of wine tasting
Oct 2020
We didn't have an appointment, but after having driven around the valley all day we took a chance and stopped in at the end of the day. "Just a second" turned into a wonderful, multiple varietal and pinot vertical experience on the back patio as the sun was setting. Thank you for a great experience and the few bottles we brought back to Texas.

Not much talk, too many $$$
Mar 2021
Can't believe how expensive wine tasting has become if you don not become a member. We are tryiing to be nice with three stars, but this was really not a good first wine tasting experience in Willemette Valley. Picked for its trip advisor ratings and others. Oldest winery. We sat in a tent behind people that paid $55 for a marginally good view, we paid $35 a piece, plus the market basket and we were really looking forward to truffles, $105 for a lunch. Well, out of truffles, we get bitter chocolate, OK, but not truffles. Our pours were so meager in these carafes, we barely got three small tastes. Wines were OK, pinot Blanc we like the best. Our wine steward tried hard, but shard way too much of her personal life and not enough about the wine, she just talked way too much period and that made the whole experience poor. The best deal was that you only had to buy two bottles to get credit for one tasting, so we got two pinot blancs for another $25.

Superb and super COVID Safe, MUST-VISIT
Dec 2020 • Couples
Adelsheim is a must-visit, for travelers and locals alike. The experience is always top of its class, the staff are charming and brilliant and the wines are some of the best in the region. Thank you to Paul and Mark for making my recent visit incredible. In terms of COVID safety, it couldn’t be better. Easily the most pleasant COVID experience I have had. Feels very “safe” while still being a high quality visit. And the food- definitely try truffle fondue! Can’t wait to go back soon.

Nice tasting experience; great variety of wines
Oct 2020 • Couples
We visited in October 2020. Reservations were required and made by our hotel.

The setting is lovely!; due to COVID-19, all tastings were conducted outside, and that was fine by us. We had a lovely fall Oregon day and a great view of the vineyards surrounding the tasting room.

Of any winery we visited, Adelsheim took COVID protocols most seriously; staff stayed six feet away and dropped-off tastings on a separate table. They still managed to provide a personalized experience, however; the woman who conducted our tasting was extremely knowledgeable about each wine and fun to engage in conversation. She also added a couple of pours of things that were open, which was nice.

There was a nice variety of wines. As you’d expect (it’s Oregon, after all), the focus was on Pinot noir and Chardonnay, but a Pinot blanc and rose were also on offer. They have also started making sparkling wines (from Chardonnay and Pinot noir), one brut and one rose. The rose was excellent. The Chardonnays we tasted were also enjoyable; they had light oak and one had a particularly excellent mouthfeel. One cool part of the tasting was a feature of two Pinot noirs from the same block from different vintages, tasted side-by-side; it gave you a great sense of how climate affects the end result. The sparkling wines were both excellent—so excellent we had to buy some!

A nice experience. Would recommended and would happy return.

We had a wonderful time at Adelsheim Vineyards! Robyn did a FABULOUS job leading us through the tasting. She was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed each and every wine we tried here. We placed an order and can't wait to receive our Adelsheim wine!
