The parking lot is a little bit of a walk through sane away, but it wasn't too bad. There is a stream crossing, so hike up your pants and walk across (brr..) and check out the Ghost forest and the cliffs on the south end. Then we walked over to Proposal Rock and checked out the tide pools on the sea side of it. We then followed the stream around on the beach side and checked out the wave. We finished off the little trip with ice cream form the trailer out by the road at Café on Hawk Creek and walked around Neskowin Trading Company. It was a good 3 or so hours.Visited August 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 31, 2023

The weather was not too nice when we came maybe next time will. Overall, this one is our least favorite beach. We had fun exploring the caves nearby though.Visited June 2024Traveled with familyWritten June 9, 2024
- Cherish_TravelPortland, Oregon194 contributionsProposal Rock, quiet beach, golf and good food - old times village away from hustle-bustleBeautiful, quiet beach - great for long walks, gentle dogs, and family fun. This area is a micro-climate, usually cooler and mistier than surrounding beaches. Next to a lovely little village with a nine-hole golf course, good coffee at Neskowin Provisions, and excellent meals/pizza at Hawk Creek Cafe (with a Tillamook ice cream truck out front). Less tourists, more history.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten August 17, 2024

The Ghost Forest was our reason to stop, something we’d wanted to see for a long while. We were appalled to see that it’s a long walk from the parking lot when you use a walker, wheelchair, or cane. So, no view.
Furthermore, the city prohibits all parking near the beach access point. That may not violate the ADA Act, but it’s unwelcoming. No one should have to be able-bodied to see this attraction.

I enjoyed every minute walking on this beach. I don't go to the beach a lot so I was a little freaked out with the little bugs on the sand every night. Some people made little fires at night. This was very relaxing to see. Not many people on the beach which was a great plus for me.

I stopped by Neskowin to check out the ghost forest. The beach parking is maybe .5 miles from the ghost forest. Also of note is that I had to cross a stream in order to get to it. I'm not sure if the volume fluctuates at all, but when I crossed the stream it got up to knee level. It was a little chilly and there are no foot showers at the parking lot to clean off. The ghost forest itself is a neat curiosity but I would not call it a must see. The stone pillars coming out of the sand make for a couple of nice photos, but you will have to determine whether that is something that's worth the stream crossing to you or not. I'm glad I saw it, but there's nothing about it that would make me go back.

Though it's visible year-round, the best time to see the Ghost Forest is low tide during the winter months of January to March. You'll want to check out the tide chart when planning your visit and pick a date where the tide will be at -1.0 feet or lower. Then, arrive an hour before that time so allow time to park and get to the ghost forest just past Proposal Rock. Sadly, on the one day that we were in the area, the tide did not get low enough for us to see any of the stumps.

This is a nice beach to explore. However, we went to see the 'ghost forest', but it was not accessible even though we went at lowest tide. The beach is nice though to walk around on. Another couple was there to do the same thing we were & they tried a few different way to get there but were not successful either....

I loved this Oregon beach with its rough windswept look. Find Proposal Rock and the Ghost Forest here. Be sure to check tide charts and go at very low tide. The tide rushes in quickly and some wading makes it an adventure.

I visited at low tide with a group of friends so that we could see the Ghost Forest. There is free public parking and a short trail down to the beach (you have to cross water to get down to the beach so wear shoes that can get wet or be removed). Proposal Rock is large and scenic, and the Ghost Forest with its petrified and fairly phallic-looking petrified stumps is a must see! The end of the beach has several caves and large tidepools. My family has had a beach house nearby in Lincoln City for several decades and it was my first time visiting this beach, and I'm so happy I did!

Proposal Rock is very dominant. Go at low tide to see the Ghost Forest. Beach is wonderful for a stroll.
Great place to visit to avoid the crowds. You don't have lots of pet owners with yapping dogs to disturb the calm of the ocean waves...don't need to be mindful of flying footballs and frisbees. This is a relatively small beach area but there is a magnificence of nature with the prominent rock; petrified stumps; and unceasing call of the ocean.

We made it to the beach early during a seasonal low tide to observe the Neskowin ghost forest. What a unique and awesome site. We spent a couple of hours wandering the beaches and the fantastic formations.
