We went for the Ghost Forest (underwhelming) but the real star was Proposal Rock. We where there just after low tide and managed to see some tide pools on the seaside of the rock for just a bit as the tide started coming in. There was a good amount of sea fog at the time and it created some really cool pictures. There are rock features at about every Oregon Beach and this one is a good one.

Cool beach. We saw a couple having wedding photos taken while we are there. Be sure to wade across the creek at low tide to see the Ghost Forest at the South end. We stayed at Neskowin Creek RV about a quarter mile from the beach access. Cool little spot.

This is a beautuful and secluded beach. Enter via a rock walkway and enjoy the long beach walk. Be sure to check tides and go at low tide only. Look for the nearby ghost forest of old Sitka trees.

We recently spent an afternoon at Proposal Rock. As the Oregon coast is unique and always spectacular to experience, Proposal Rock is exceptional.

There are plenty of accommodations with nearby Neskowin, Pacific City and Lincoln, so while we only had an afternoon, it's definitely worth a longer stay.

This area is so clean and beautiful. The beach is an easy 5 minute max walk from the public parking lot (which has clean restrooms).
You can get to proposal rock without crossing the creak but getting your feet wet and crossing is worth it (watch the tides if you only want to get ankle deep wet on your way back).
The beach area across the creek from proposal rock is known as a ghost forest because there are trees that stick out of the sand during low tides which are over 2000 years old.
It's beautiful and fascinating! Worth the stop!

Proposal Rock is one of the most accessible sea stack rocks that dot the Oregon Coast. The top of the rock is covered by a few trees and some undergrowth. The top is reachable by at least one steep, poorly marked path. The rock is the focal point of Neskowin beach. Personally, I consider Neskowin one of the most attractive beaches on the Oregon coast. It is located about halfway between Pacific City and Lincoln City, on highway 101. Because it is relatively sheltered by headlands to the north and south, unlike most Oregon beaches, Neskowin is not particularly windy. In addition, since Neskowin village is just a tiny hamlet, with only a small local market, no gas station, and halfway between the major access roads of highway 18 and highway 22, it is usually not very crowded. Access to Proposal Rock and Neskowin beach is from the parking lot across Salem Avenue from Neskowin Trading Post and The Café on Hawk Creek. From the parking lot, cross Salem Avenue and stay on the north side of Hawk Creek, where a well marked footpath takes you to the beach. Proposal Rock sits at the mouth of Hawk Creek. At high tide, water completely surrounds the rock, and covers most of the beach, right up to the breakwater of Neskowin Village. At low tide, the beach is about 150 yards wide. The beach is a fine, white sand, and makes a pleasant place to walk, sun, surf fish, or beach comb. At low tide, the Neskowin "Ghost Forest" is reachable on the beach south of Hawk Creek and Proposal Rock. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the Ghost Forest is the stumps of 2,000 year old Sitka Spruce trees. The trees, which had been part of a coastal forest, died and were submerged at about 9 p.m. on January 26, 1700, when the last "Cascadia Event" earthquake caused the land on which they were sitting to drop about 60 feet into the ocean.

One of my favorite Neskowin beach events is the 4th of July. The local fire departments do a really nice fireworks display, shooting the fireworks off from no more than 100 yards from the nearest spectators. The fireworks explode over Proposal Rock. Families and friends build small fires on the beach, and roast hotdogs and marshmallows while they watch the display.

The dramatic setting between long sandy beaches and the imposing Cascade Head headland at the border of Lincoln and Tillamook counties is punctuated by beautiful Proposal Rock. The naming of the rock isn't completely lost in history The sea stack is named for a local legend which claims a sea captain took his bride-to-be there to propose to her. It is possible to walk around the rock during some of the minus tides which occur. You may also climb from the shore side of Proposal and capture phenomenal views of the Pacific. But beware. I have been there when folks had to be rescued because they paid no attention to when the incoming tide would make it impossible to get off the rock. A woman was swept from the Rock when we were there for Thanksgiving in 2008. The ocean is a powerhouse. Perhaps even more dramatic than Proposal Rock itself is the ancient forest that is literally in the surf. Read up on it, and observe best at low tide in winter. 2000 year old trees sticking up out of the ocean surf? Go see!

Located right next to the Ghost Forest, you can't miss this huge rock. There are lots of tide pools to observe and wildlife living among the rock. Definitely go at low tide to ensure that you will be able to see the Ghost Forest in the ocean!

We visited this place after finding out that the super low tides this summer exposed the ghost forest. The low tide exposed the forest and made circumnavigating Proposal Rock possible.
We had to ford through some water to get back to the “forest”. The dogs were not excited about the trip in the rain, but the humans are glad we got to see it.
