About
Who we are…Alpacas at Marquam Hill Ranch is an 18 acre ranch in Molalla, Oregon. We are directly in between Molalla and Silverton. We have 80+ Huacaya alpacas. We breed our animals for the fineness of their fiber, with a soft handle and good density. Our goal is to create a long term fineness in all animals that mimics the feel of cashmere or better. Presently more than half our herd is under 21 micron. We have white as well as a variety of other colors of alpacas. There are 22 natural colors of alpacas as defined by the Alpaca Registry. Bill is an AOBA Certified Fleece and Performance Judge. His education helps in the purchases and breeding of our alpacas. In the future we will be holding seminars on fleece evaluations, breeding selection, business plan write ups and fiber arts. If there is a topic you’d like to learn about, we’ll find the instructor and create the class. Or you can just stop by and we would be happy to answer your questions. We have a large fleece room dedicated for presentations and a ranch store for a quick pick up gift for yourself or someone special. Our herd consists of eight studs we either fully own or own in partnership. They are Snowmass Trilogy, Ezekial's Challenger of Marquam Hill, Crescent Moon’s Ezekial, Crescent Moon’s Accoyo Elizario, Accoyo America Kodiak, Nirvana of AMHR, Denver of AMHR and Emerald Cloud's Javelin. We love to talk about these amazing animals. Whether it is a question on how to get started, breeding questions, animal husbandry, the investment aspects (Bill is a retired CPA) or anything else that you might be interested in, please feel free to stop by, give us a call or drop us an email. We look forward to hearing from you!

My husband and I took our 3 grandchildren here for the first time today. They are ages 12, 9 and 5. They were very excited to see alpacas for the first time ever! Unfortunately, the people we dealt with, especially the older woman, whom I assume is the owner, were somewhat rude and unfriendly. We had heard such good things about this place and so many good reviews, that maybe our expectations were too high. But that still doesn’t excuse how we were treated. She didn’t really volunteer any information and seemed as if we were in the way of her chores. I was desperately trying to make it more fun for them and found 3 bags of feed for sale to give to the alpacas. As my 9 year old granddaughter was feeding them, one of them spit on her and she was very upset. The owners response was this “if she had been wearing a mask, it wouldn’t have happened “. Now, we were all outside and we all had masks, but she had took hers off while feeding them. Nobody else was near her at the time. I noticed afterward that there were a few others without masks on at all. We will not go back. What a disappointment for all of us.

Thank you for taking time out of your day to visit us and our alpacas. We are sorry to hear you had a poor experience. After reading your review, talking with both the employees on duty and giving it alot of thought, I have a few thoughts that I will share but please call me, Bill Cameron at 971.212.2210 to discuss this further and figure out a way to get you the experience your were hoping for. When I read through some of our more recent reviews, I noticed they were sharing their experiences on two different options we provide. The intensive tour is about 75 minutes and spends about 45 minutes explaining how we care for the alpacas and traits that make them special. Then we spend about 30 minutes with the guests watching the moms eat, having the yearlings eat at out of your lap and then walking with them on lead. The tour ends up in the store where we will show you how the qualities of their fiber produce such amazing products. This tour is 19 dollars, requires a reservation and we book out about 2 to 5 weeks. We also invite guests to stop by and meet the alpacas. This is a non scheduled opportunity to meet the alpacas. We will try and answer questions and give guests some history about our alpacas. As you mentioned, we do offer grain to feed the alpacas for 5 dollars. I am sorry that your granddaughter was spit on, Jennifer feels bad that you took her comment as rude. She was trying to make your granddaughter feel better by injecting some humor. We are both sorry it was not taken that way. With this "meet the alpacas" option we cannot always spend the amount of time that we would like with guests since we have the store to oversee and cleaning to do. Speaking of cleaning, we try and clean where our guests can go as each set of guests leaves, due the Covid 19 We also follow Governor Brown's executive order that requires anyone inside the barn or store to wear a mask if the they are 5 or older. I have asked people to leave that do not follow that executive order. While this may seem tough, we can get fined and or shut down by OSHA for not following the order. It is also the best way to protect our guests and employees. In closing, I am very sorry that your visit here did not measure up to your expectations. Again, please call me at the above number so we can see how we can get the experience you were looking for.

I have been meaning to write this review for a long time as my experience at the farm was unforgettable. My husband and I drove down on our way to the tulip festival. It was a nice place to stop on the way. We thought we would be there for 15-20 minutes and ended up staying 1.5 hours!!

We did not purchase a tour ahead of time but when I went down there the owner still took the time to let me feed and pet the animals. He explained to be all about the fibers (which I am really into because I am studying materials). He was so willing to share his wisdom about the animals, the fibers, and how the animals were all judged and award winning.

I would 100% recommend visiting this farm and buying the tour. I will purchase the tour the next time someone comes to visit us.

Of my entire first trip to Portland and the surrounding area, this was definitely my favorite and most memorable part. I found this opportunity through these great reviews, and I can confirm how wonderful the alpacas, cats, and owners at Marquam Hill Ranch are. The owners are very educated about their alpacas and genuinely care for each of them as they share stories and facts. Not to mention, they do an EXCELLENT job of staying environmentally conscious in many ventures including a reduction of plastic waste use associated with the grooming and sorting of fleece. The owners instructed how to properly interact with and feed an alpaca, and the alpacas themselves were very sweet. Though the tour had been booked the day we went, the owners kindly offered to make space for my family of four; they were also very flexible with their tour in that you can participate as you like, and they can accommodate their activities as needed. I would easily come back here to learn more about and interact with the alpacas for a private tour. The drive from Portland is beyond worth it!

I did an internet search for weird things to do with n Portland. 45 mins later I’m walking around the Alpaca Ranch with One of the owners Jen! I needed a unique experience and I found one! I learned a lot about these animals and was able to capture video of myself feeding them. Super cute and since I’m a big kid… I loved it! I even purchased a pair of Alpaca socks and Alpaca stickers from the gift shop!

Today I took my two grandkids, ages 9 and 12, to Alpacas at Marquam Hill Ranch. Bill, the owner, gave us an alpaca short course--what they eat, when they are shorn, how their fleece is used. The kids got to feed them, too. They have a lovely gift shop so we could see what wonderful products are made from alpaca fleece.

Mom and I took a day trip to the Christmas Market in Silverton but somehow missed that it was only an evening event. [Sad trombone]. I happened upon a brochure for the Alpaca Farm at the Chamber of Commerce and we took a worthwhile detour. We spent about 1.5 hours talking with a wonderful young person who showed us the alpacas and told us all about their farm, the animals, their breeding and shearing processes. It was fascinating and the socks, hats, scarves and sweaters are amazingly soft and beautiful. And the yarns were beautiful too. Great place for gifts! Highly recommend!

We went here yesterday around noon. It was about 50 minutes from Portland but its definitely worth the drive! Once we got there we were greeted by a lady and she was very friendly and welcoming! We are from out of town and she suggested a lot of places to see in Oregon. Also, COVID safety guidelines were implemented. They have sanitizers and people were wearing masks. Definitely recommend stopping by! 10/10 experience :)

This place was wonderful! We went not knowing what to expect and came away with so much knowledge! We were taken around an shown the Alpacas in the different fields while learning about them, followed by the change to get to feed them.
Then in the shop we were educated about the different types of fibers and what the ratings meant. This was our favorite stop on a great vacation and we are looking forward to going again.

We visited this past Saturday (June 13) and had a wonderful time at the ranch. The owner and employees were so gracious educating us and of course the alpacas were exceptional up-close. You can tell it is a professional, fun atmosphere and certainly loved every moment with tons of pictures taken and memories made. Planning to visit again in the near future and do not miss out either! Btw, make sure you buy some feed for the alpacas and do the tour!
