Beautiful and great trails for running. Poison oak lives here!

Great place for swimming, boating, picnics, camping in summer. In winter I run the trails here with my dog. There is poison oak though so beware. Bring Technu.

After you get over the breathtaking views surrounding you when you stand atop the dam you realize the sheer quiet in the air. Nothing but nature, it was like music to our ears. This is in Ruch (pronounced "Roosh") but you pass through historic Jacksonville to get here if you are coming from Medford. This easily makes for a relatively... More

Beautiful lake for recreation or relaxing with family or friends...driving thru wine country in the Applegate Valley of Southern Oregon, ending up at this beautiful mountain lake for a swim, picnic,or just to relax will make this side trip so very worth while....enjoy

Applegate is a reservoir managed by the Corps of Engineers. I fish there regularly. Excellent small mouth bass and rainbow trout fishing. Beautiful setting, fed with cool water from streams coming down from the Siskiyou Mountains. The far west end actually touches the California border. There are three boat launch ramps and a swimming area for children. Very clean water.

Must see for camping and day use if you want to appreciate the area. The camp store is well equipped. You can rent kayaks and paddle boards. There are 6 different campgrounds that these people run. Squaw Lake is amazing if you want seclusion and beauty.

I am not a big fan of dam created lakes. Most of the shorelines are very unappealing. Applegate Lake is one of the better looking ones. The area around the lake is very nice and the river that feeds the lake has some great spots to enjoy mother nature.

It's a beautiful drive out to the lake. But you won't have cell service out there- at all. There's quite a few hiking trails also in the area. The infamous big foot trap is out there! Beautiful lake.

Applegate Lake is a reservoir for agriculture in the Applegate Valley and as such, is drawn down rather quickly over summers like those we've had recently. Last year I understand it never filled due the shortage of rainfall. However, when it is full in the spring and early summer it is wonderful. Swimmers love the Carbury Creek area and upstream... When the water level is up, the Applegate Lake is beautiful. There are multiple hiking trails, and super photo opportunities. Many tourists visit this area for the award winning wines as well.
