When you are on your way to Crater Lake, take the time to explore the Rogue River area. It has several small hikes.

The area is gorgeous. The colors are breath taking. It was not crowded so we stopped and took our time while looking around.

The Rogue River itself is lovely and clear, and it is surrounded by some absolutely beautiful country, very green! It's fun for rafting. But don't neglect the other rivers in the vicinity.

Had heard lots of good comments about the Rogue River, but none of them compared to seeing it in person. This river is surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery anywhere in the world! And that water is crystal clear!

Spent the better part of the day alongside this beautiful river. Unlike many areas in Oregon this river hasn't been burned. It is gorgeous and wonderful to see.

Great river for rafting, tubing, fishing or just dipping. Great on a hot summer day, the water and air were fresh and clean, the rapids were level 3/4 and the fish are big and plentiful....

Help with Oregon Itinerary (7 Replies)
Hi we will be traveling to Oregon from the 2nd - 19th of October. I would like to keep the last 5 days i.e from the 13th uptill the 19th for exploring Portland and its environs. Seeking suggestions for the remaining 11 days. Its just me and the boyfriend and we are quiet nature lovers who like long hikes and mountain biking. Although our one true love is beer(IPA). So heres a question: Are there places in Bend, Columbia RIver area, the northern and central coast, Rogue river area etc,...More

I'm more of a wine guy, but I do know that there are great breweries all over Oregon. Bend, Hood River, Newport, Pacific City and Eugene in particular all have excellent breweries and brewpubs that keep thirsty patrons quite happy. You might check the list of attractions for Grants Pass and Gold Beach to see what's available in the Rogue River watershed. I'd be very surprised if you don't find some good watering hole recommendations.

Arcata is very close to Trinidad. They have some newer chain hotels--basic & clean. Arcata & Eureka have some pretty good restaurants. Your trip sounds fun! Gold Beach is beautiful, as is Trinidad (visit Patrick's Point State Park) and Healdsburg.

Wow, thank you so much for all the info I found on your forums, I have incorporated your great advice into our travel plans and want to know if we made wise decisions in timing and places to stop. We are early 60's, travel a lot, and never been to Oregon before. Don't expect to swim but like to walk on beach to see tide pools, want to see more Redwoods than in Muir Woods, do some hiking, and then relax in Sonoma with great meals, and do the city thing in SF where we have been before. So,...More
