I am very humbled and proud that McMinnville cares enough to have such a beautiful statue to honor our Yamhill County soldiers.

A statue on The Art Walk
Mar 2019 • Solo
I was walking around on a nice Spring-like day with an Art Walk flier in my hands. I was going around seeing the sites of McMinnville. Eventually I cam to their statue. A memorial to Soldiers of The World War. Very nice to see this Memorial.

Always great to see Statues to heros

I was walking around downtown McMennville noticing that it has some very nice things to see when you take a walk around the town. This is one of many that are there for you to admire.

Be sure to pick up the ART WALK flier. It lists Sculptures and Murals, as well as Art Galleries and Studios. And has a map showing where all these are located.

I plan to return to walk around and explore more of what McMennville has to see and enjoy.

Every memorial honoring the military deserves a moment of your time

Easy to find (by the courthouse) and a sobering reminder of the sacrifice made by many men and women in service to our country.

Very interesting story on the memorial about a local man. It is worth taking 10 minutes to read and enjoy. Located close to downtown.

Very moving local war memorial with new WWII monument close by...

Being a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War era, I stop at all small town war memorials while on road trips around the U.S. This one is located in McMinnville, Oregon. It was dedicated in on Armistice Day, now Veterans Day, November 11, 1923. Carved into the upper granite panels are the names of all of the Yamhill County soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice in The World War, April 6, 1917 to November 11, 1918. Some soldiers died of typhus following the armistice while waiting for transportation back to the States. On the lower panels are Memorial plaques to Yamhill County soldiers who died in all wars since WWI. This bronze Doughboy statue is located on the well kept grounds of the county courthouse. When you are finished here, walk a couple blocks to the front grounds of the Oregon Mutual Insurance building. There you will find their new WWII Monument to McMinnville soldier Leonard DeWitt recipient of the Distinguished Service Cross for Valor.
