My girlfriend and I were on a road trip along the Oregon coast and Short Sands came highly recommended by a friend who surfs regularly here.

After walking for about 5-10 min along a lush, magical PNW rainforest you’ll come out to a smooth-sand beach protected by cliffs on both sides. Lots of cool things to find in the tide pools, caves, and around the waterfalls.

Park along the 101 in a dedicated lot. The trail is very manageable with offshoots leading through old growth forest. About 1/2 mile to the beach. There are cliffs on both sides which funnel the beach in. Worthy of a movie location. Surfers hang out.

This beach is a great introduction to the PNW. walk down a trial filled with old growth forest and emerge onto a stunning beach with an active surfing community. A must if you're in the area.

When we visit the northern Oregon beaches, Short Sands Beach is always on the menu. The forested large pathway to the Short Sands cove and beach is nature at it's best.

Blown away by this place - went twice in two days for body boarding with my 10 year old son. Loved the 15 minute (easy) walk down through the forest and the reveal of the stunning beach at the end. Was pretty quiet on both days (Monday and Tuesday). Plenty of space for people to relax or play on beach and more than enough space in the sea for surfers and body boarders. Great waves too. Toilets and picnic benches (and even a BBQ grill) on hand too. Up there with the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever been to.

Great beach but it's extremely crowded on the weekend. It was like playing surf dodgeball when I was there. I will have to try again on a weekday. The surfing conditions weren't great when I was there but still some fun to have in the waves.

Pull off of HWY 101 and take this short majestic hike to see what’s up with the surf. Rain or shine it’s epic scenery!

Beautiful cove with rock cliffs, a stream running to the ocean, protectected ocean for beginning surfers. At low tide there are interesting tide pools. There are areas protected from the afternoon winds. A relaxing walk to the beach on a well-maintained trail through old trees that tower overhead and beautiful flora. The trail follows a meandering stream. The walk renews one's spirit.

I brought my grandchildren on an "adventure" to Short Sands Beach and it was a delightful day. The walk through the Oswald West State Park forest trail was delightful and interesting for the children, and the wide, sandy beach was wonderful for wading safely. A short hike to the end of the beach brings you to a waterfall. There are actually bathrooms on the cliff above the beach which is handy too. The 1/2 mile back to the car at the end of the day was a bit more challenging with tired children, but we all made it just fine.

Emerging from the Oswald State Park rainforest trails, you come upon Short Sands Beach. A very large cove sheltered by steep cliffs and white sand. It was quite a vista and deceptively large. The creek cuts through the middle of the beach area from the forest to the ocean, There were groups of surfers congregating, and families walking their very happy dogs. The tidal pools along the cliffs were full of interesting sea creatures and swirling water. To add to the dramatic vista and the weather, and while we were exploring the tidal pools, there was a rock slide that sent fairly large rocks down the cliff face to the tidal pools below, sending us all running out of range. This beach would provide hours of happy entertainment to anyone of any age in any weather.
