Lake Oswego has always supported the arts. That expanded to place public art on the streets and in the parks. The Arts Council is deeply connected to the outside world and has indoor space to show local artists. I have always enjoyed and been intrigues by what I saw. It is so refreshing for a small city like Lake Oswego to include art as a big part of our culture.

For the last 20 years or so, I have rarely missed the Lake Oswego Festival of the Arts. It is held in late June every year, and includes an amazing variety and quantify of high-quality art and craft items. There is a special exhibit in the Lakewood Center - 2016 focused on art made of paper. The building also displays other work, including kids' art. In an adjoining big tent is the open art exhibit - with paintings, photographs and sculpture by local artists. Over the years, the quality of the open exhibit has improved considerably, and now competes with many galleries. In George Rogers Park, across the street, are booths selling ceramics, glass, paintings, woodworking, clothing, garden art, jewelry, even hand-made musical instruments, and toys. Music and food add to the entertainment value of the event. Even though the festival attracts tens of thousands of people, the transportation is well-organized through a shuttle system with multiple stops where parking is ample. Parking downtown Lake Oswego during the event is difficult to impossible. The festival is over for 2016, but June 2017 provides another opportunity.

Downloaded the app (LO Art) and spent a lovely afternoon tracking down the various pieces of art. Every year, some parts of the collection change, while the best sculptures often stay and form a point of recognition

We saw a mention of the gallery without walls and had heard that Lake Oswego was a pretty town so we decided to go for a little drive from Portland (about 20 minutes). At first we werent sure where the walk was, but when we found the Arts Council the woman there was extremely warm and helpful and gave us a map. We had such a nice time walking around the "Downtown" and spotting the sculptures. There were many of them, scattered all around, through the main streets as well as down by the water. The gallery was quite nice too- and the town is a great place to visit.

You will be amazed at the wide variety of outdoor art located in downtown Lake Oswego. The sculptures are varied and wonderful to look at and enjoy. You can walk along the streets and sidewalks of downtown Lake Oswego studying and admiring the various sculptures. You can also stop at the various stores and small shops in downtown Lake Oswego where do you do wine tasting, purchase small items, and even have a bite to eat at one of the many fine restaurants.

How wonderful is it to view sculptures placed throughout downtown L.O.? Pretty darn great. You can pick up a self guided tour at the Arts Council or request (nominal fee) a docent led tour to learn about the artists & their inspirations to create their sculptures. Ever changing & always amazing. They also host “drink & draw sessions” with artists every few months ~ too much FUN❤️ Every community deserves an ArtsCouncil!

The Arts Council is an important part of Lake Oswego, and residents and visitors alike see the work it does wherever they go around town: the most visible work the Arts Council does is to install sculptures all around town. Some are part of the city's permanent collection, others are on rotating loan; this is the Gallery Without Walls. The Arts Council also puts art in public buildings, holds art shows in its gallery space, sponsors "plein air" artists, and art shows all year 'round. It has a large and very dedicated group of volunteers as well as a talented, creative staff, and contributes a lot to the cultural and artistic life of this city!
