This whole part of Oregon is beautiful and definitely worth a visit. If you are interested in geology and the impact of previous volcanic activity, this is the place to go.

While we were driving I saw the beautiful John Day River. It was flowing towards the dam. At the top of the mountain, there were wind turbines. It was very attractive! We stopped to enjoy this river.

When you make the drive you cross this river many times on the highway. The diversity and size of river varies widely as you make yourself across Oregon.

What a lovely campground. Clean, lots of trees, grass and shade. The bathrooms were also very clean. Lovely large sites with Electric and Water. Can't wait to stay again.

Really pretty river, much of it along the road. Loved it cutting through Picture Gorge! Irrigation ditches bring water out to hay flats and cattle, lots of farms to enjoy as you cruise along.

What a place ! Wear suitable footwear. You will need a car, water and a camera. There are toilets dotted around, no cafes or shops for food so be prepared. This place is well worth a visit. The scenery is certainly worth the drive.

A sight for sore eyes after being in the desert all day. Nice areas to pull out and cool off. Pleasant surprise in the desert.

The river meanders through the countryside for miles and affords some great views. It is a nice option for day trips and relaxing.

In the area of John Day, Oregon and both to the east & west of it flows The John Day River and it's various forks. The river follows many of the highways and you see it often. Relatively tame and flowing through through rich agricultural...More

We were told where to find good swimming holes by the locals. Some swift currents. A lot of mosquitos. Be prepared with repellant.
