I have always found cemeteries interesting. This one with it's segregation and history is amazing. Lots of shade from trees and places to rest and reflect, make this an easy and peaceful hike. We incorporated the cemetary into an entire day of different hikes around...More

A really fascinating, large cemetery located on a hill overlooking Jacksonville. Such a pleasant, quiet stroll among gravesites dating back to the founding of Jacksonville. So much history to see here and in such a lovely setting! Allow plenty of time to vsit. (But pay...More

First of all - of you are from out of town - or from an area lacking visual history - bring your children here. They can learn a lot from the headstones.to the layout of the cemetery itself. Catholic, Jewish, Masonic...all have their own demarcation....More

This was my 3rd or 4th time visiting this cemetery. I am enthralled with this place. The history, the detail, the texture. This was my first time doing the free audio tour on the Jacksonville website. Highly recommend it!!

We visit the cemetery whenever we come to Jacksonville, probably 7-8 times so far. It's large, tree-shaded, and very peaceful. We love searching out the oldest tombstones, and are saddened by the number of families who lost multiple children during times of sickness. Many wars...More

Our visit was rather spell binding; a quiet reflection of lives lost and many from the 19th C.! Many of the oldest stones were meticulously maintained so the names and dates were legible. The experience taunts your imagination, wondering the identities of these early families...More

We visited this cemetery while attending the Britt festival. We spent several hours wandering the place. Very interesting and historic, probably the most interesting cemetery we've ever visited. Highly recommend.
