By far the best experience I have ever had, From the time we arrived to the time we left the staff was amazing… I initially advised Margo that I was going to propose to my now fiancé somewhere along the ride and well Marg and Laura Definitely help me out and made it perfect… The horses are great, staff is amazing and we had zero issues the day was legit perfect....
I’ll have ridden horses before but my now fiancé has never been on one. They made sure to pick out the right horse for her and for a beginner she actually took control the horse and did not let it take control of her. People have to remember that horses are animals and that none are perfect, so whoever is reading this definitely plan a trip out there , enjoy the outdoors and have a good time :-)

What a fantastic morning! Absolutely the best horse I've ridden outside of Wyoming ever. Margo, the owner, was an outstanding tour guide and took us on a beautiful private ride. This place is the real deal. Unlike the vast majority of ranches, she actually has first-rate horses for beginners, intermediate, and even experienced riders. My horse had the smoothest canter and was positively playful--a complete delight. I wish I had found Double Mountain Ranch sooner, because we would have ridden almost every day. A true highlight of the summer, heck, the whole year!
When you are choosing your activities for the Columbia River Gorge, this should definitely be at the top of your list.

Great mid summer evening ride in the Columbia River gorge to dry creek falls! My husband and I had a great private ride this summer with the owner on her lovely horses! My horse Cinder a Missouri fox trot breed has a lovely smooth gait! Very comfy for trail riding. We didn’t pass one person on the PCT Riding to and from the falls! We had the Forrest all to ourselves! The Horses are very well trained and responsive, and well cared for. As we are experienced riders, and she let up ride ahead. We rode with them also last summer 2019 on our anniversary for the mountain panorama ride which is also another very good ride! The nice thing about this outfitter is that they will match you To the appropriate horse based on your riding experience and Taylor the ride to your ability which means they can offer something for riders of all levels. Can’t wait until they open back up for next Season!

Loved my ride with Margot! Planned it about an hour in advance. It was a blast exploring the river and the groves on horseback. She fit the ride to my level of experience with horses. I choose to do this instead of skiing at Mt. Hood in the summer and it was a great choice. Only wish I could've stayed longer!

Visiting Oregon for the first time this was to be the highlight of our vacation...a wine tasting tour by horseback...sounds great right?! Scenery was beautiful but Margo's "guiding" skills left us stressed and made the overall experience a poor one. The way she spoke to her staff and us, her customers, was deplorable. She barked out orders and when questioned kept yelling answers as though she were speaking to children. We were inexperienced riders and it was as though she assumed we knew what she meant when she asked us to help "bridle" the horses. It can be very intimidating to be on such a powerful animal with little to no instruction on how to handle them. I think she would be better off hiring staff to do the guiding and stay behind the scenes. Left the stable feeling let down, stressed out and unhappy with our decision ....all 4 of us discussed this review and are in agreement...find something else to do!!

My wife and I often choose to hire an outfit to go horseback riding when we go on vacation. It's a great way to see the area and we both enjoy horses. We usually don't expect anything more than a mellow walk to some location and a halfway decent horse who just stays the path. Margo, who runs Double Mountain Ranch ensures that your experience is so much more!
Her horses are very well cared for and well trained. She is not afraid to let you get the horse to canter, trot, or gallop. She paid attention to her customers and made sure we didn't do anthing we were comfortable with but she was otherwise open to whatever we wanted to do.
We went in November and we went with two other people. It was a small group. We went through a Pear orchard after the trees were picked but there were still lots on the tree's. We were allowed to try so many different flavors of pears. They were also fun to pick from the horses. Then we went down to Hood River and got the horses feet wet. She said if the river was lower we would have crossed and made a loop. Then coming up from the river we did an incredible gallop up the hill (if we chose to) and I never had so much fun on a horse.
By all means Margo knows how to show her customers a good time. If you go to Hood River make sure you look her up.

If you love horses and riding, it doesnt get much better than this. A wonderful guide, beautiful scenery, a sweet, responsive horse and just a great experience. I grew up on a horse farm and this ride was way better than I expected. I recommend this to anybody that loves to ride.

Took a friend for her birthday on the wine tour ride. We had Leah as our guide and she was absolutely amazing. My friend and I had an amazing time and the scenery is breathtaking. I highly recommend this place!

I recently did this tour with my girlfriend and we had an amazing time with out guide, Leah. The horse riding was really enjoyable and nice to not feel like we were very restricted, like other horse tours I have taken. The wineries we went to were both amazing ambiance and delicious wines, which we ended up buying a few bottles of because we liked it so much. I would highly recommend this!

My daughter and I had a date day together. This day included shopping, lunch, and completing the day with a horseback ride in the gorgeous Hood River at Double Mountain Ranch. Couldn't have finished the day any better. Not only was the ride wonderful, peaceful, beautiful, it was my daughter's first time on a horse by herself. Margo Goodman made this trip and time special. She has a gift of hospitality, kindness, radiant light, and of course a equipped instructor on a horse. She makes you feel right at home and part of her ranch. She loves what she does and it shows in her rides and listening to each customer's needs. I would recommend this experience for anyone!! Thank you Margo for what you do and how you make people feel after coming to your ranch. We will be back....

Hello! There really isn't a direct answer to your questions. Margo, who does the trail rides has dozens of options. September is a lovely time to be here, usually still warm and cool nights. You really just need to call her, tell her what your riding levels are, how many and what kind of ride you would like to experience. She will put together a great package for you! Hood River is a beautiful destination for quaint shops, great food, brew pubs, cider houses and wine tasting galore! So you'll never run out of things to do, even if you haven't planned for any :) Enjoy your stay with us when you come,
Kathy
