About
Franco Marchesi's passion for wine began in his hometown of Borgosesia, Peimonte, Italy. As a child he always wondered what it would be like to be a winemaker like his grandfather Achille. After running his own import company specializing in Italian wines for over 20 years, Franco began planting his favorite Northern Italian grapes in Hood River, where the climate and soil are just like Northern Italy. Please come visit, and taste our wines. Salute!

The staff was friendly and welcoming. This place is set up for wine tasting with the individual tasting area. These are outside with barriers dividing up the area. Nice way to get the setting right for wine tasting. The wines were good. We enjoyed the red wines the best.

Just to be very fair with my review and evaluation:
I am a sommelier, trained and educated with a degree in wine, so professionally, I am a critique, but for this winery, my review will be easy on the winery and aimed for the tourists who wants the experience of wine tasting not necessarily looking for the best wine to taste or know or even take home.
For the setting: it is well thought off, planned and designed. Service is good and attendants are knowledgeable.
As for the wine, here are my not so harsh review for the servings in June 2024:
(The tasting is of 5 wines each serving 1 ounce for $25) for the other individual wines, each glass is 5 ounces and either $12 or $13)
2022 “IL Bianco Uvaggio” Columbia valley
60% Chardonnay + 40% Sauv. Blanc
Nice, not impressive. Cannot decide if you taste the chard. Or the Sauv. Blanc
Definitely Drinkable
88 points
2021 “Toscano” Columbia valley
Syrah, Sangiovese, and cabernate Sauvignon
Excellent taste very fruity. Smells good too
My favorite of the tasting
90 points
2021 “Solimano” Dry Red wine
Nebbiolo and Pinot Noir
Terrible by all means
Undrinkable

2021 “Bric” Dry Red Wine. Col. valley
Nebbiolo and Barbera
Terrible by all means
Undrinkable

2021 “Pace” Columbia valley
Primitivo/zinfandel and petite Syrah
Smells OK very gentle and light
Taste very light but lack of characters.
May be drinkable, for some

…,,,,,,
Separately ordered according to commercial good reviews:
2021 “Emma” Sangiovese, Columbia valley
Color: dark ruby through out. Core to rim
Nose: red/dark fruits and berries
Palate: raspberry and very fruity with spiciness
Drinkable but not impressive for Sangiovese
87P
2021 “Giuseppe” Pinot Noir, Columbia Gorge
Nice Garnet color at core opens to a clear rim
Nose: classic Pinot noir smell of light red berries.
Palate: light, spicy, and of red berries (sour cherry and cranberry)
Good but I will not seek it or have one in my cellar.

We had such a wonderful experience at Marchesi Vineyards. The weather helped in that regard, but the wine was the spot light. The staff were all incredible and friendly. We asked to me moved from our original seat to a winery view and the waitress was so understanding, she even came back and checked on us several times. We love her!!! She had so much knowledge about wines and the new waitress was equally as knowledgeable. And everyone was friendly and welcoming.
As for the wine. Very delicious. Hearty reds, a couple delicate whites and one seriously tasty Prosecco. I’m not a fan of their bottle label but the wines are spectacular. Oh and they have outstanding olive oil. We brought a bit of everything home. Oh, I almost forgot the charcuterie trays are delicious too. We ordered a small one and it was big.
I highly recommend this winery during your trip in Hood River wine country. They have great outdoor seating with breathtaking views. Magnificent!!!

This vineyard deserves to be at the top of your Hood River bucket list! We had a table between the vines that separated us from everyone else and it was wonderful. The tasting was perfect and the service was excellent. Our southern waitress was absolutely amazing. So friendly and knowledgeable. She told us all bout the history of the vineyard and really knew about the wine she was serving.

We had a terrific experience at Marchesi. We called the day before and made a reservation and were glad we did because it was a busy weekend afternoon. Exceptional service. Our server was engaging and knowledgable (Jamie). We enjoyed tasting several wines we havent had before. Nice selection of red wines. We enjoyed the Barbera and Sangovese the best! Lovely setting on the patio next to the vineyard. Generous tasting of 4 wines and then we tried two more). The large cheese and meat board was great four our group of four. One of Our favorite places of all the vineyards we visited over the weekend.

Franco has made a wonderful place to eat, drink and enjoy good company. I first started going here almost 12 years ago. He only had a card table and 5 wines, but what amazing wines. Treated everyone as welcomed guests and continues that, even if the winery has grown quite a bit. I highly recommend this place to anyone traveling through Hood River. Thanks again to Franco and the whole family.

This vineyard has a beautiful outdoor seating area with umbrellas for extra shade during the hotter months. The host was very welcoming and showed us to a beautiful table next to the vines. It was very cool to be able to sit so close to the vines! They had some great music on and it was fun to relax and try the wines. My favorite was the Cereja and I ended up taking that one home. Overall I enjoyed my experience and would love to come again.

Lovely outdoor covered seating area with individual nooks for your party. Good selection of wines with a fun Italian theme. Wait staff was friendly, but wish they provided more recommendations and knowledge on the tastings.

This is a beautiful place to taste wine; they have semi-private cabanas right next to the vineyard, or comfy couches and chairs both indoors or out. The staff was incredibly friendly, and when we mentioned we were from out of state, they really went out of their way to chat with us about wine from the area and point us toward other great wineries to try after them. Although we loved the setting, the wine wasn’t to our taste. It was good wine; just not what we like. However, if you enjoy Italian style wines, by all means, GO. You’ll have a nice time and enjoy yourself and the wine!

Where else can you experience the worst customer service imaginable for only five dollars. I really could not tell you how the wine was because my judgement is probably clouded by the painful experience.
We were promply greeted by the friendly proprietor with the first sample in our flight and directed to go outside and sit in the sun while we waited for our second pour. I noticed they had menus on the tables so we were glad to see that we could grab a bite while waiting and waiting and waiting for the second pour. After viewing the menu for about fifteen minutes or so (still no second pour) a woman came up from behind me and literally yanked the menu from my hand and and said "sooorry".
At that point I was confused. I did see other customers eating so I assumed they must have stopped serving at some particular time. No worries; I noticed they were serving complimentary bread with small slices of salami. This would do nicely! So I waited and tried to get someone's attention to ask if we could enjoy some of the bread. By this time twenty minutes had passed with no second pour. We finally got the young man's attention and asked if we could have some of the delicious looking bread. His response was " I think I saw the owner set some on the bar, you can get your own if you like". Wow! Was this really happening? At least we did get the second pour, but how long would the rest of the flight take? Twenty-five minutes had already passed. We were both huddled under the inadequate shade of a tiny umbrella trying to protect our skin from sunburn while waiting for the pours.
I think we spent an hour or so there without ever receiving our last pour. We just paid our ten dollars and hurried away. Fortunately there was enough time left in the day to enjoy some beautiful vinyards with wonderful customer service skills.
