A truly great transportation museum
Oct 2021
I love local transportation museums--but WAAAM was truly exceptional. It's a huge collection of antique planes and cars, very well curated, with lots of interesting bits and pieces (a display of historic fishing lures, a collection of WWII rifles, etc.) scattered throughout. The volunteers clearly love what they do, and every single one of them is a wealth of information.

Truly excellent museum!

Don't overlook this massive museum dedicated to the first 40 or so years of flight. There are automobiles and other cultural displays but the aircraft are first rate!

Tour of the WAAM facility in Hood river, Oregon
Jul 2021
I was attending a convention for SPAAMFAA in Portland, Oregon and this was one of our side trips. What an exciting day to see all of the flying machines, and motorized vehicles on display from WWII L-Bird collection, WWII TG-6 Glider; 1923 Locomobile Touring car; 1916 Dodge Brothers Roadster; 1910 Aultman & Taylor Steam Tractor, Dodges, Chevys, Ford, Lincolns, and many others. Also have a large display of small scale vehicles, one old Fire Truck, lots of displays from way back when. There are four hangers full of vehicles. On the second Saturday of each month the museum volunteers have a play day and take numerous vehicles out for test rides. Great place, lots of parking and good food.

Thank you for reviewing. The museum's collection focuses on the Golden Age of Transportation and Aviation - roughly the 1910s up to the 1960s or so.

Definitely Worth Seeing

Attended the Traffic Jam classic cars event, which included admission to the museum. Wow, so much to see, so much to learn, such great volunteers to tell you stories. Well done!

Thank you for the review. Our special event admission for things like WAAAM Traffic Jam, Annual Hood River Fly-In, or our summer education courses always includes museum admission too.

OMG
Jul 2021 • Couples
Hubby visited while I watched the dog. Asked what they had and he said “OMG, they had all kinds of vehicles from 1900s to 1960s. And everything works. You can even arrange to drive a Model A! Would’ve loved to do that. There were old delivery trucks that I’m sure were used by bootleggers.”

Thank you for reviewing. On the Second Saturday of each month, WAAAM opens up the hangar doors to start some of the collection. We give rides in the autos we choose for the day too.

Absolutely amazing place!

This is a mind blowing museum. You couldn't possibly see everything in one visit, it might take 5 visits. Exceptionally well laid out and displayed. Yes, there are many airplanes and many cars but so much more. Several videos explaining all sorts of historic events. The volunteers/employees are very friendly and helpful. Their knowledge is encyclopedic of the planes and more. I can't wait to go back. Very nice gift shop too. If I lived closer I'd love to volunteer here.

Model T driving school
Jun 2021
Took the model T driving course and thoroughly enjoyed it. Driving the Model T is a unique experience; it takes practice and is completely unlike any modern car.The instructors are excellent and very patient; they seem to really enjoy teaching. I highly recommend it. Reservations are required. Includes museum pass and lunch.

Thank you for the review. Our average visit runs about one and a half to two hours to see the whole collection due to its size - for those that are very enthusiastic, we've seen folks spend all day enjoying the museum.

Outstanding collection of airplanes through WW2 and antique cars.
Jun 2021
If you like pre-war cars and muscle cars, and/or pre-war airplanes that chronicle flight, give yourself a couple of hours to see this extraordinary collection. Compared to other museums, ALL of the planes can and still do fly and the cars all run and are periodically driven. The staff is very knowledgeable and I could have easily spent the entire day here.

Way more than I expected. Was a busy Sunday afternoon, but still a lot of space, and the docents were very helpful.
