A wonderful tour!

This was my second trip with Southcoast Tours. I went on a kayak tour out of Brookings a couple of years ago. Boat tours out of Port Orford start with the exciting but really safe experience of being lowered from the dock to the water by crane. It was a sunny day and the sea was calm. We were pursued by fog, but our Captain, Brian, skillfully avoided the fog and took us to see many local treasures. We saw 3 whales and got to see flukes, fins and spouts.
I highly recommend Southcoast Tours for taking locals like us or visitors to see the wonders of our area!

If you are considering an adventure in Port Orford, OR; book with these folks! They’re just awesome. You will have a great time.

Captain Dave Lacey was fantastic; personable, knowledgeable and ocean wise. We booked a half day fishing trip. We left the harbor, after being lowered by crane to the water. That was a cool start to a great morning. We dropped crab pots, then headed over to the “heads” for fishing. We limited out in about two and a half hours. Rockfish and lingcod. We checked the pots on our way back and limited out on Dungeness crab, as well.

For your information; just for fun, I checked what it would cost to buy the same amount of whole Dungeness crab, we caught on our trip. Costco sells 4-6 crabs (10 lbs) - $209.99. The fresh crab we caught paid for our trip! That doesn’t even count the fish we caught.

A Whale of an Excursion!

This is the second time we've taken family on the Whale Watching tour with South Coast Tours. Both trips were fantastic and both times we saw whales, sea birds, dolphins and unmatched beauty! This trip we had Brian as our captain and guide. I cannot say enough about how amazing he was as a person and guide. He treated my family like gold and was intent on making it a special trip...he did not disappoint! Thank you 😃

Port Orford Whale and Ocean Wildlife tour

Dave and the Black Pearl provided an amazing experience on the ocean that is a must for any visit to Port Orford. No whales this time but ocean wildlife was abundant including harbor porpoise! Him and his crew are very knowledgeable of area and it's vast history. Will check out again. Teenagers even loved it- that is hard to find.

Get out on the water!

Easy booking. Great communication regarding trip confirmation and expectations. Our guide was well-informed, an experienced boat handler and was genuinely interested in sharing the wonders of the Port Orford Heads/Red Rocks Marine Reserve with our group!

Just spanked it!

Just spanked it! My wife and I were really happy after we were done & back on shore, and I mean in a good way! We now have stories to tell! Brian, our captain was awesome (the kinda guy you want to go drink beer with), very knowledgeable in seamanship, safety minded which made us feel comfortable and secure.

The whales...never seen so many sightings in my 64 years! Must have experienced 15 in all that were within 150 yards to 0. Especially, when one came right up to the next to the boat that just thrilled the heck out of all of us! I mean you couldn't see any water between whale and side of the boat! Just too cool. Great experience!

Equipment: Nice boat not too big, not too small, clean, well maintained, and secure.

South Coast Whale Watching Tour

Although we didn't see any whales on this trip, we saw sea birds and seals. The scenery was amazing and our captain, Brian, shared his knowledge of both the history and natural history of the area. One of the highlights of our Southern Oregon Coast trip!

I wish we could guarantee whales, but alas we can't. Glad you had fun anyways. There's a lot to see besides the whales which are often times hanging around.

Beauty of Pirt Orford Head

We had a wonderful from with Grant. Kayaked along Port Orford head. He was skilled and knowledgeable, sharing lots about wildlife, history, and ecology. This is our second trip with friends and family. Highly recommended!

Great Ocean Boat Tour in Port Orford, OR

We are a family of 6 (parents, grandparents & teenagers) that took the tour on the Black Pearl boat out of Port Orford. Our guide, Brian, was awesome! While we didn't see any whales because it isn't their season, we did see some seals, star fish, birds and beautiful scenery. We also got to experience the unique dock system they had in Port Orford where they lower the boat into the water via a crane. We all enjoyed this boat tour. In the words of one of the teenagers "10 out of 10!"

Magical time on the sea with a grey whale and wildlife.

Captain Dave was exceptional. I was fortunate to be a solo guest among a small number of passengers and had a great experience on the Port Orford Whales and Wildlife Boat Tour. Our captain was very informative and shared an abundance of interesting facts about the wildlife we encountered. He spent an ample amount of time at the location where we sighted a 35 foot grey whale. Giving his passengers the opportunity to take lots of pictures and video. I look forward to taking other tours on future visits to the Southern Oregon Coast.
