It's like Cheers in the middle of the most beautiful Nowhere you ever saw!
Sep 2019
Four of us were out for a touristy type birthday celebration. Explored Fort Rock the rock and the nearby cemetery. Stopped in at The Watering' Hole on our way to dinner. At first glance, it is not much different than lots of places. The drinks were cheap (as in two wines, one vodka and a beer for $14). But what made it were the people. One woman made a Red Velvet cake in celebration of her birthday and brought it in to share. Then we met the owner, Larry, and his wife. Just the sweetest people you ever want to meet. The reality is that we will never ever go through that part of the state without stopping in. And I totally expect that Larry will greet us with a hearty "NORM!".

Hot Summer Eats
Jul 2018 • Friends
On one of the hottest weeks of the summer we took a group of RVers to La Pine, Oregon for a campout. During one morning we drove out to Fort Rock to explore. Getting hungry, we stopped at the most interesting restaurant we could find. We were not disappointed. The food was great, the atmosphere was country, cowboy and down-home. They even had a small windmill on the roof of the porch covered with miniature lights. And it was cool inside.

Stopped in Fort Rock Or a very small farming community for the night. Parked the RV in a lot. Found The Watering Hole for breakfast. Very unique find. Home made English muffins & sourdough bread. Good food

Delicious, Warm, Friendly, Fantastic, BUT I'm not sure why this is a "Thing to do" and not listed under "Restaurants"

We stopped in here for lunch after visiting the Fort Rock Homestead Museum. The caretaker there said we should give it a try. Wow. It far exceeded our expectations. I had the Bacon Blackberry Brie Melt and my boyfriend had a burger, I don't remember which one, but man oh man was it amazing. I would never have thought that out here, in the middle of no where, the food would be so good. It's a fantastic place. The wait staff was so friendly and pleasant and we talked to some local people having lunch. It was a great experience all the way around.

Completely blown away

Stopped in for lunch after visiting the Homestead Museum, asked the nice lady which of the 2 restaurants in town was better. She suggested firmly The Waterin Hole. Walked in the door and was a little concerned, sat down at the bar and was greeted by the locals and the server. The tap list was small but with a decent selection of Oregon craft beer. The menu was on a blackboard and the selection was dizzying, so many items and all of them sounded delicious. I ordered the Crux Porter and a Bacon Cheeseburger and neither of them disappointed, food was damn good! That's only part of the story. The people were so gracious and friendly, Amanda was AMAZING and baked cookies while I was there and shared with me and the nice young lady who cooked my food can really cook and was just so very nice! In all honesty, this place is worth the drive there and anytime I'm anywhere in the area, this will be my go to place.

A great place to eat after visiting Fort Rock and the museum. Great burger and beer. Dog friendly and very good service. Friendly, small town place where all the locals eat.

This place lives up to his name. Nice beer selection. Burgers we really good. Decent prices, and serving sizes. This is were the locals go. Real cowboys (and language) frequent this place. Make you the crack in the ground if you are in this area

Don't expect a Carneros Pinot Noir but do expect honest and friendly people!

Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves at this very honest and friendly establishment. Order your drinks honest and that is what you will receive. If Shea is behind the counter you may find yourself also making a hair styling appointment too! Look for our names on the ceiling over the cash register!

Good food and a fun place to visit!

Recently took a group of 24 to the Waterin' Hole for lunch. Our group enjoyed both the unique setting and the staff. Cold drinks and good conversation made the time pass quickly while Rosie and Rachel worked as quickly as possible in their small kitchen to prepare our food. Imagine preparing 16 BLT's, some chicken strip baskets and french dip sandwiches in a very small kitchen. it was a challenge, but food was very good and was served with a smile. We definitely will be back on future visits to the Summer Lake area. Because it has a bar, I'm not sure about bringing children in.

Friendly local tavern!

We stopped in here for a cold beer on a hot day and found it to be a delightful find. They had buckets of fresh peanuts which you could eat and throw the shells on the floor. We discovered it was Taco Tuesday and we enjoyed a few tacos for lunch. Prices were cheap and the food was good. The beer was served in frost cold mugs. It was a great local experience with a very nice waitress and bartender.
