Only three dots because it's closed in April

I think this would be a really interesting place . . . when it's open. I was disappointed to see that it does not open for the season until early May.
But I was able to peer over the fence and see a bit of it.

Interesting visit
May 2019 • Couples
May 3/19 - drove across from Summer Lake to view Fort Rock and glad we stopped at the Homestead Village Museum. It is well worth a visit, not large but captures perfectly the life of the early settlers - and what a tough life it was! All cabin exhibits were neat but found the one room school particularly interesting - loved the rules for the kids (and for the teacher, allowed one night only per week for "courting" - no social media dating back in these days!).
And lastly, a "thank you" to the volunteer at the centre who gave us some fascinating insights into Fort Rock as it was then and now. Made our visit complete.
Can highly recommend, not the Smithsonian but well worth a visit.

Really enjoyed our visit to this museum, you can go back in time to how they used to live, able to enter their homes, very interesting and with beautiful views of Fort Rock.

We missed museum hours but the preserved homestead village was amazing to see and luckily there was some historical information on the side of the road! Not sure it's worth its own drive but it's a great companion to Fort Rock (which IS worth its own drive).

Experience the way the pioneer homesteaders lived
Jul 2018 • Friends
It is amazing how the homesteaders of frontier days lived out in the Eastern Oregon Desert. You will need at least an hour to walk through the pioneer village. They watch closely to protect the historic museum.

Interesting Slice of History

We were camping out at Summer Lake Hot Springs and decided to take a look at Fort Rock and the museum. We spent some time reading, looking, and discussing what life must have been like. Definitely worth the time.

The museum building itself was nothing really special but the whole village they had preserved was amazing, very impressive. The volunteer was very knowledgeable and helpful.

We stopped here on visit to Fort Rock. Fun to read about all the people that settled Fort Rock, and think about what it was like to live there. Many interesting things to talk about

There isn't much in Fort Rock except the rock which I have hiked on a previous trip. I was driving back to Bend from California and decided to go via Christmas Valley & Fort Rock to see this museum. The museum's village is interesting a couple of homesteaders, a doctor's house, a general store, church, blacksmith shop and more. You get to learn something about the early community and stretch your legs.

A wonderful look into the past
Sep 2017 • Couples
Just an hour's drive from Bend, is a wonderful pioneer village that transports you into the past. These original homesteads from the early 1900's are on display and open to the public to explore. With each building there's a bit of history that may include who built it, who lived there, where they migrated from, etc. It was very rewarding to walk through this village and to get a sense of the people's lives over 100 years ago. I'd highly recommend stopping here, but check the hours as they're very limited.
