7 of our family, age 7-74, enjoyed a ride through the dunes and to the top of one dune where we had a great view of the ocean. Most of the ride was under trees and along fern-lined trails which gave some shelter from wind and rain. Horseback riding was a new experience for most of our group. The staff members who assigned us horses, gave us directions and led the ride were very experienced and watched out particularly for the younger members. We were part of a group of around 15 riders. With that many in the group, it took more time to stand in place until everyone was ready; and to cross Hwy. 101, a few at a time. Recommend layers of clothes, rain jackets and pants (if there's even a slight forecast of rain) and a change of dry clothes for after the ride.

This is a Top Notch company with excellent management and excellent staff who love and take care of their 40+ horses. We brought our church group with 28 teenagers and adults for three shifts of riding on the trails, dunes and beaches in this beautiful area. Everyone had a great time and the horses were well behaved and easy to ride. The staff made sure we followed social distancing guidelines and they had sanitizer and masks were required until we were saddled up and on the trail.
Staff made no less than five safety stops during our horseback ride to check on saddles and harnesses, etc. They gave our youth a great safety briefing and eight of our youth were first timers!
The grounds are clean and well landscaped with flowers and water fountains and you don’t get the impression that this is your typical tourist operation. These folks know their business and you we recommend that you make advance reservations to have your family or group ride.
We had a fabulous time. This is a great way to have family fun while enjoying the beauty of the Oregon coast and the privilege of riding on a friendly horse. Great website and great gift shop as well.

My 12-year-old daughter went on the 2-hour beach ride on her own for her birthday. She had never ridden before. The horse, Sampson, was perfect for her!! After coming out of the corral she said, “That was the best birthday present ever!” Her experience was top notch. The guides were very attentive to her and took pictures of her for us. The beach trotting was definitely her favorite part. Not once did she feel scared or uncomfortable. Definitely a perfect experience for someone her age!! Don’t be afraid to send them on their own...they will have a good time! She went on a Tuesday morning ride.

A great opportunity ride horses through forest and beach settings. It was a beautiful ride. I am an animal lover... it seemed the horses knew their job and did it well. The team of people providing the services were nice. It is a guided tour and I felt safe on the animal. Bring a jacket the beach is very windy. :)

As an experienced rider (own a horse and compete in three day eventing), I love this beach ride stable. I ride there every year when I go to the coast. I have ridden at several other places along the Oregon coast, and C & M Stables is without a doubt the best.
The guides are always professional, knowledgeable, and easy to get along with. Their horses are fantastic, and the stable does a good job of matching horse to rider. Very safety focused business. I would recommend them without hesitation.

Even though we were experienced horse owners I was given a horse that was bar none the worse horse I have ridden in 40 years. It never put its ears up (laid flat on it's head) and possessed every bad habit a sour horse can have! It turned what had been a vacation experience, looked forward to, into a regrettable $89 depressing memory. Next trip we will try the other stable.

Very reasonably priced for the quality of the tour. Went on the beginner tour at 2:15. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Our guides did a great job keeping the group together. The ride takes you through a meadow, a forest, through the dunes and then out on the beach. The guides took pictures of everyone at the turn around point. Would definitely do it again.

When we first arrived we filled out the usual liability paperwork. We had our camelbacks with us to have some water on the hot 2 hour day trip we were heading out on,but were told just prior to leaving that no water was allowed. Then, all the horses appear to be so barn sour that every step is a labor to get away from it. Once we got to the beach access the view was beautiful and we were told we could trot the horses...good luck with that. Most of the horses have to be kicked multiple time before they will even consider doing this difficult feat and forget using the reins the horses have become so numb in the mouth the hardly react at all to what you want them to do. I would not recommend this stable to anyone. Go to a more reputible stable where the owners and employees still appear to love what they are doing.

Was told on the telephone to be there on time or they would ride without us and still be charged, we were on time as was everyone else riding, but ride started an hour and half late with no explanation as to why. No one spoke to us except what could minimally be said. They purposefully turned their backs to customers so they would not be engaged.
We were also told that the experienced riders would be able to ride faster once on the beach, we rode slowly the whole time with the horses always trying to ride back to the stables. When asked why riders could not ride faster they said that was a "different ride that we did not sign up for". Save your money and run on the beach and take photos!

What is the age limit for riders? Would a 7 year old be able to ride with us?
How far in advance do you need to book your ride?
CandM_Manager
Lake Tahoe, Nevada6 contributions
We do recommend reservations 3 to 5 days in advance but will take drop ins up till set ride times as long as we have openings.
Do you offer group discounts or senior discounts?
CandM_Manager

We do offer group discounts based on 1 to 3 riders in your group or 4 to 9 riders or 10 or more riders. Please take a moment to visit our web sit and you can see the rate sheet break down.
So do you have to wear the helmet or can you just wear a hat or a cowboy hat if you are wearing one when you get there??? I been thinking about it...

Hi David,
All minors under 18 years of age are required by insurance regulations. Adults 18 and older may sign the helmet waiver and opt out of wearing the helmet. We do always suggest that all riders wear the helmet.

I am thinking about buying a go pro camera to wear on my helmet, is that an ok thing to do? Normally I would have my large digital camera but because it is large and the information sounds like that is discouraged I have a small pocket camera but it only takes average photos and videos.
thanks, Judy Hobday

Hi Judy,
Yes, using a Go Pro camera is OK, and some other guests have done so. Please mention the Go Pro when you make your reservation. However, we have found that it can be distracting and the results disappointing - unless you have lots of practice. That is, the camera is on top of your helmet and not very easy to operate while riding. As an alternative, unless you are going to use the Go Pro for other activities, you might be wiser to purchase a better quality "pocket" camera that can be carried with you on many occasions where your larger camera could be a nuisance. We look forward to your visit. Let's Ride.
