This is one of my favorite places on earth. I was studying at U of O back in the late 70's, and hadn't been back to Eugene since the early 80's so I'd been missing Hendrick's Park for about 40 years! And it is still just as heavenly as I remembered it. Worth the trip!

Hendricks Park is a garden and a walking area with trails through old growth trees. On one side of the picnic area and across the road there is an area called the Rhododendron Garden with is filled with Rhododendron, but we were there in September so only one of them was blooming a little bit. However, there were other flowers planted there as well. It was truly a maze so even though it wasn't large, you could walk miles. On the other side of the picnic area, there were trails leading up the hill , some steep, some more gentle, through old growth woods. The majority of the trees there are evergreens and the fragrance was intoxicating! We saw a couple of woodpeckers drilling holes in some of the old trees. There were multiple trails on that side as well, but they were not the tangled maze seen on the other side. The roads to the park are confusing and it was very useful to have the GPS unit to find our way there. Instructions would have been inadequate. We spent about 3 hours there, but we could have easily spent the entire day. We saw several couples lounging on the lawn soaking up the sun. It was a great place to let down for a bit.
