I took my father, who is in his late 70s, and his girlfriend rafting for the first time. Both are strong paddlers on flat water but had never done rapids before. It was late summer so we only saw category 1-3 which was perfect. The guides were amazing. We were on a boat with Kamal who is from Tibet. He was funny, professional, and amazing at navigating the rapids. We all had a blast.

Gary was our guide...he was fabulous! Knowledgable! Funny! Informative! Experienced! Knows the environment, the history and the “ stories” that goes with it all. Right amount of fast rapids and beautiful scenery and freshest air!

My husband and I booked a trip through Blue Sky Whitewater Rafting for my birthday adventure. We loved every minute of this experience! We decided on a full day trip and we had Spencer as our guide, who was awesome!! On arrival we met Gary and he got us checked in and he held onto our keys for us. Gary also was our bus driver, photographer, and he made the food for us. We then drove in a bus over to the launch point. We got in the raft and we went down the river! At one point we got offered the experience of cliff jumping. My husband and I both did a jump. My husband jumped from about 25 ft and I jumped from about 10. It was exhilarating! Our guide talked us through how to do the jump correctly. So glad we decided to jump. After jumping we continued down the river and then around noon we stopped for lunch. It was delicious! We had chicken, steak, fruit, bread, cookies, and lemonade/water! After eating we got back in our raft and got to experience “surfing” and spinning. Both were quite fun! Spencer also told us amazing stories and pointed out wildlife and nature to us. At one point we saw 13 ducklings and a momma duck. We recommend this tour to everyone and we would do it again. Thanks for a great rafting experience!

The wife and I booked a full day whitewater rafting trip down the Clackamas River with Blue Sky Whitewater Rafting. We were in Portland Oregon visiting our son and he suggested we take this trip so we could experience the great outdoors. Our starting point was a few miles outside Estacada, where we met up with the other couple who would be joining us on our great adventure. They had just recently gotten married the day before. Our guide, Mike and the photographer, Aaron, arrived shortly with raft in tow. Both young men were very polite and extremely professional. Mike would be navigating our raft , while Arron would be in the van, stopping off at different locations along the river, taking photos of us as we passed. Most of the time, we never knew where he was hiding, unless Mike pointed Aaron out. The first thing I noticed, was how professional and knowledgeable these two young men were. Their attention to details and the desire to make our trip a success and fun was very apparent. Their upmost concern was our safety. We were briefed about what we should do and not do and why. As we started down the river and approached and made it through the first of many whitewater rapids, it became apparent of how skillful and knowledgeable Mike was. His ability to read the situation and make corrections to allow us to navigate the rapids safely and have fun at the same time, was outstanding. Also, his antidotes along the way kept us laughing the whole trip, plus informing us about the local wildlife and plant life. Since it was the all day trip, after 4-5 miles down the river, we headed to the bank and enjoyed a feast of food, prepared by our photographer Arron. The steak and chicken were grilled to perfection. The seasoning used on the chicken was a family recipe and it was delicious. We also enjoyed salads, vegetables and fruit along with cookies. A really fantastic lunch. After lunch, we headed back down the river, were the rapids were a little more intense, but with Mike’s expertise, we made it through all of them safely. When the trip ended, we where a bit sad. We had so much fun and met and shared a great time with new made friends. A great day to be had by all. In closing, just a great outdoor experience. Mike and Aaron bring credit to themselves and Blue Sky Whitewater Rafting. They are definitely an asset to the company. The next time we are in Portland, we will be booking once again with Blue Sky Whitewater Rafting and definitely asking for Mike and Arron. Thank you both for an everlasting memory. Bill and Dena

This was a father's day trip for me and my two adult sons. We took the all-day Clackamas River tour and couldn't have been happier with the overall experience! As a family we have been on a number of Class III/IV whitewater rafting trips over the years, and this trip equaled or exceeded all of the others. A number of things stood out, starting with the fact that when the trip came around they were willing to run the trip for just the three of us as opposed to cancelling due to not having a full boat, so in the end it was a "private" tour. The raft was configured to hold six, so even at full capacity it would not have felt like a crowd, and the smaller boats, in my opinion, give a more exciting ride. While I am not a professional, the equipment looked up to date and in good condition, and I would strongly recommend renting the optional wet suits and boots. Our rafting guide, Mike, and his assistant wrangler, Aaron, were great. Mike was technically excellent, with very good control of the boat and the ability to adapt to changing configurations of paddlers - we were three, two strapping young goons in their 20's and an aging father who had to change sides a couple times - as well as the inherent imbalance of having an odd number of paddlers. Mike was, as you might expect, also very knowledgeable about the river, its wildlife and the general area. Aaron, who assisted with getting in and out of the river and served as both photographer and cook, helped make the trip a smooth experience. Aaron's lunch, consisting of grilled chicken & steak, grilled veggie, salads, drinks, fruit, and cookies, was superb, complemented by his family's wonderful "Poppy's Kitchen" dry seasoning rubs. If you are a vegetarian, I suggest you let them know in advance - the veggies here were clearly token sides, not intended to be the main course:) If you have the time, would strongly recommend the all-day as opposed to half-day trip. Not only do you get an excellent lunch, you get a lot more really nice scenery and a few more rapids. The bigger rapids rapids at the time we were on them were a solid Class III/III+, and can get as high as IV at some times. It's not really physically exhausting, but intense, and you will feel like you have accomplished something when you are done. Overall, a premium river experience, well worth the price and convenient to Portland. The Clakamas River is also an amazing bit of scenery, and even without rapids this would have been a beautiful trip. Strongly recommend Blue Sky and would book with them in an instant if we go again.
