I frequent the Depoe Bay area about once a year but had never taken a Tradewinds excursion. I wanted my son to see whales and the 1 hour excursion out of Depoe Bay harbor was exactly what I had hoped to have, time wise and...More

We had a fishing trip reserved with Tradewinds for big ling on a six man boat and 2 days before they called and asked if they could make a change to a five hour and take out their largest vessel and since they were shorting...More

This was great! You can see whales from the shore, but going out on a boat lets you see them close. This was really inexpensive only 20 dollars each! And it was over an hour. I would suggest you take Dramamine if there is any chance...More

Excellent boat, crew and captain to go watch whales. Saw several whales. The boat seating inside and out was comfortable and plenty for everyone

I went on a salmon trip. I hesitated to use theses guys since my previous bottom fishing trip was disappointing also. But everyone else was booked. We had no two bites and one fish for 14 people for 5 hours. Captain went only 2 miles...More

We chose this group because we weren't comfortable taking young children and older adults on some of the small boats that offer whale watching. Tradewinds has some good size boats that offered a comfortable trip for an extended family to watch the whales. We had...More

Decided to do the 1 hour whale watching tour. The captain and deck hand were friendly and knowledgeable. Within 5 minutes of leaving the harbor we were seeing whales. I would definitely recommend this charter

I just checked on tradewinds depoe bay and found a scrolling list of what they were catching. Their phone number is 541-445-8730 for more details. Hope you have a fun time and don't get seasick!

Thank you for the question. At this time Fish and Wildlife has not given dates for this fishery. In previous years this has been quite slow and possible may not have a season then. The best fishing may be Rock fishing... More

Reef fishing (2 Replies)
Heading to Oahu in November and I'm trying to set up a private fishing charter for my family of 5(kids ages11,9,5). We do NOT want to do deep sea fishing (which we have done before)but rather reef/light tackle fishing. The kids want to catch lots of fish rather than waiting for "the big one". The only companies I could find that offer this are Tradewinds Charters and Sashimi Fun Fishing. Neither of those companies have very good reviews-in fact most are not good. Any one here have a company...More

While I donʻt have knowledge of individual companies I do know that in Hawai`i, all fish caught belong to the captain of the boat, who can give them to you or not. So if your kids expect to be taking lots of fish home they may be disappointed. You donʻt want to eat the reef fish anyway, due to the danger of ciguatera.
