- David RorickVicksburg, Mississippi19 contributionsNirvana for pinot noir loversWhat a spectacular location and a luxe venue! Oh, and the wines aren't too shabby either. Domaine Serene is a gorgeous facility with knowledgeable and gracious staff. Their estate wines feature mostly locally produced pinot noir and chardonnay, with an extensive portfolio of partnered and domaine-owned wines produced in Burgundy. They provide a fascinating tasting comparison between one of their Oregon estate grown wines and one of their Burgundies from Santenay. Worth the tasting fee for that comparison alone. Domaine Serene is nirvana for pinot noir lovers. Highly recommended.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 22, 2023
- Oliver6 contributionsExceptional wine tasting with Domaine SereneI had the pleasure of visiting Domaine Serene recently for a wine tasting experience, and I must say it was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Melina, whose high-spirited and warm personality set a positive tone for our visit. Our host, Celia, provided us with a memorable experience. She not only welcomed us to a surprising list of wonderful wines but also made it personal by sharing one of our favorite white wines with us. Celia struck the perfect balance between being educational about the wines and gauging our interest in specific details. I must also mention Charles and Alex, who, like Melina and Celia, welcomed us warmly. It's clear that the people at Domaine Serene play a crucial role in making each visit special. While the spectacular views are undoubtedly a draw, it's the wonderful people and their beautiful personalities that truly make Domaine Serene stand out. Their dedication and warmth are what keep us coming back. The wines are exceptional, but it's the people who are the heart and soul of Domaine Serene, and they are what make each visit a joyous experience.Visited January 2024Traveled with friendsWritten January 22, 2024

He was extremely knowledgeable, informative, professional and able to customize everything to my taste profile - even further as we went deeper into the wine list. Very impressed with the wine, ambiance and customer experience. Would definitely recommend for wine drinkers of any experience level.Visited May 2024Traveled with friendsWritten May 2, 2024

- TOURtheWORLDMexPalUnited States3,601 contributionsForever it was my best Pinot Noir Wine, Now, it is my best wineryPlease, read this before you visit this winery (if it is your first time). I came to Domaine Serene winery with high expectations…. I left with a memory to remember forever…. Not just exceeded my expectation. I came to this winery to taste wines (estate wines only) that I cannot get in any store or restaurant, those exclusive to members and see if I still like those wine as those I get from the distributors…. And the experience was amazing. I tasted wines from three of the seven vineyards and all are top notch. (Grace, Bradford, and winery hill). Although I made the reservation for the estate wine tasting, when the wine specialist seated us, he asked what we are looking for at this visit, so when I told him why I am here, he said the tasting option on this list is not for me (it is an introductory for those the familiar with their wine) and he recommended to customize it for us, which he did and with all honesty, I would say it was impressive. We tasted 10 different wines which all exclusive to members and the bottles prices ranges from $150to $405. So, my rating of those we tasted with no/yes to purchase or add to my cellar: #1 Aspect Chardonnay 2021 ….. 91p no #2 Montrachet 2020 ……94p yes #3 Domaine Serene winery hill 2021 …. 94p yes [not rated yet by WS] 96p by decanter #4 chateau de la Cree santenay 2019 …. 89p no #5 winery hill 2015 …. 94p [WS 93p] yes a favorite I prefer it over 2021 #6 aspect Pinot noir 2019…. (Blend of 3 vineyards; Bradford, Grace, and cote’ sud )…. 94p yes #7 evenstad Pinot noir 2012 …. 92p ok #8Grace Pinot noir 2016 …. 95p [92p WS] #9 monogram 2018 … 95p loves it reminds me with best Bordeaux wines. Full body. #10 evenstad 2008 …… although good but past due to me as it lost the fruitiness . (I asked for it So we know what 2008 retrospective tastes like, before I decide to purchase it. So, Domaine Serene was my No.1 before my visit and stayed No.1 after my visit. My recommendation to any one visiting this winery, take advantage of the opportunity of being offered to customize the tasting if you truly appreciate this winery and serious about it and remember if you are looking for wine less than $50, this winery is not for you ( yes, Domaine Serene has many wines less than $100, but they are for the unsophisticated palates.Visited June 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 3, 2024

We have visited the winery and new “clubhouse” (stunning!) twice in the last two years. What an amazing property. As a club member, the tastings are incredible, with attentive staff giving you access to about everything they have. And the member events including the dinner we attended are top notch!Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 23, 2024

We arrived four minutes late to this tasting and had already called in advance to advise the staff thinking that they would be eager to get us seated and begin…rather we were seated and ignored for 20 minutes before anyone came to the table. The experience felt very sterile, generic, and cold…there is certainly an air of superiority among the staff and sadly just a disappointment for our party. I only purchased some wine to waive the tasting fee and although the Chardonnay was lovely, I’m already regretting the purchase . Unfortunately my wine is tainted by a really sub par tasting experience! The great lesson learned, is I know I would never go back!

I have enjoyed Domaine Serene wines for years and was genuinely excited to experience the winery for the first time. The facility is beautiful and we were greeted warmly, however, by the end of our tasting I had a very different opinion of their organization.
The tasting began well and our sommelier was pleasant, educated and informative about the wines. That said, towards the end of our experience, when I mentioned I was not interested in joining their wine club (it's nearly $2K/year for entry level membership), his tone drastically changed and he became deflated and palpably uninterested.
Overall I left with a really bad taste in my mouth about Domaine Serene as I felt pushed to join their club, not only by our sommelier but by the literature presented to us throughout the experience. It's really too bad because the wines are great and, in my opinion, that should be the focus. Not joining a club and maximizing dollars spent by guests.
I won't be returning and will pass over Domaine Serene when making a retail decision.

scottcphoto,
I am sorry to hear of your experience. While wine club is important to all wineries for sustainability, we do not encourage our staff to be pushy or only engage with guests when the club is involved. I would love the opportunity to coach the staff member that provided your experience, so that we do not encounter this again in the future. If you would feel comfortable providing additional information, I can be reached at kyle@domaineserene.com. Thank you.

When we pulled up to the gate, we were asked if we wanted indoor or outdoor seating. I asked if we could see both when we get inside. Rather than showing us options, we were immediately ushered to a table in the back of the room. Our staff got caught up with another table resulting in us waiting for awhile to pay and leave. Our friends called ahead and provided the winery with their credit card to cover the cost of our tastings and/or apply that difference to our bill if we decided to purchase bottles, which we did, but their gift was never applied to our bill or brought up when we were paying. Overall, the wine was lovely but the service missed the mark. We just felt like a number being moved thru their dining room.

Once upon a time, DS was a leader in OR wines. They have become too big, too Hollywood. They are very expensive, they have a relationship with Wine Spectator which gives their wines special treatment even with the 2010 Evenstad being #1 wine of the year in the WS Top 100.
Sadly, the wines from the single vineyards, which should be the highlight and shine - have become much too modern and 'Drink it now". I am finding with perfect cellaring virtually no development of these wines and have had a higher than average number of bad bottles.
I can no longer endorse them.

We go way back with Domaine Serene and have been huge fans of their wines for many years. We’ve been to their wine dinnners, stayed overnight at the property, joined their Burgundy club, and bought their most expensive limited edition wines.
A recently we were at the vineyard to do some tasting and asked about our favorite cuvées (like the Grace and Mark Bradford single vineyard Pinot Noirs).
We were stunned to hear that we were no longer qualified to buy these wines! It turns out that the 3 cases per year we were subscribed to was no longer enough to be qualify for any of the single vineyard Pinot Noirs from prior years. We were told that we needed to sign up for their four case per year club.
We also learned that they are filling the cases we do get with their base wines you can find at grocery stores (and Costco), new Pinot bottlings that appear to exist just so they have something to sell to lower level club members, ‘library’ wines (the years that didn’t get great scores - like the 2013 - that they must be holding onto), and other wines they have had a hard time moving (like the Grand Cheval).
We’ve found no sympathy for our requests to be ‘grandfathered’ in given our tenure. Which really makes my head spin as a marketing professional.
So we’ve dropped our remaining memberships and are spending the money at some amazing other Oregon properties such as Antica Terra and Beaux Frères.
I’m a capitalist and wish Domaine Serene the best of luck. I just think people need to know what kind of financial commitments they will need to make if they want to taste any of the wines that put Domaine Serene on the map originally. Don’t expect to show up at the ‘clubhouse’ and taste the good stuff.

We were so excited to try out Domaine Serene but had such an unfortunate experience wine tasting with them. Everyone greeting us at the door was really nice however, once seated at our table our experience went downhill after that. Our sommelier was rude and treated us as though we didn’t belong. He ignored our table in between wine pours and told us that in order for us to try “the good wine” we had to become members. He even walked off mid conversation which I found incredible offensive. We’re not sure what we did to offend him. I was asking questions about the wine as I was curious about where the grapes were coming from and his answers were short and curt and he would walk off. It was our friends bachelorette party and we were all in a great mood and trying to joke with him and got nothing but annoyance in return. The ambience and the wine is fantastic and I understand that our sommelier is proud to work at such an award winning winery but he could practice to be more humble because you never know who is seated at your table.

Transports you to Burgundy. This beautiful winery in the beautiful Willamette Valley is outstanding.
Wine tastings are expensive but worth the splurge. We were a group of 11 and we paid $100 pp but were given a private room downstairs.
The wines were excellent and we ended up buying a case.
The grounds are very large and well landscaped.
They have a sister winery in Burgundy, France and it shows in the quality of their wines.

This is just another vineyard like in any other country, with rows of plants and a beautiful garden n building if you have the resources. That’s the wow factor.
For the drinking experience:
In France, you have to be invited to visit the chateau, as the chateau don’t deal with walk-in and don’t sell off their list and direct to consumers. They protect the distribution channels.
In Australia, you pay a minimum tasting fee ($20) n drink to your content. You can buy the bottles direct from the vineyard.
Here in America, you have to be a member ($600 ? a year to get 6 bottles) to feel welcome and pay a large fee ($50 ?) for tasting if you are a walk in guests like most of us on a holiday. In other words, you can’t be a casual drinker to enjoy the experience, nor can you get the better bottles as the better bottles are kept for their members.
We spent about 10mins and grab 2 bottles ($130 n $80 each) of what is available and we known it cost a lot more in the vineyard than the local shops.
I fully agree with what others mentioned… the vibe is missing and the stuffy and snooty atmosphere is something like a u feel when you step in. Only members are welcome (as seen in the carpark). This has to be part of the staff training (EQ) that is missing.
Talking about the caves, looks more like someone dining area than an underground cellar.
Being tourist n have been drinking quite a bit in our life, and while visiting Newberg, we just came to grab the bottles we knew what we wanted. Since we know we can’t get them at the bottle shop because only their members get them.

My husband and I enjoyed our visit to Domaine Serene to taste their award-winning wines. Our hostess, Sharday(sp?), was one of the high points. She was professional, knowledgeable and congenial. We drove up to a locked gate that required that we call to the clubhouse to be admitted, even after we had made reservations and paid for 2 tastings. We arrived at a massive, Tuscan-styled clubhouse (5yr old) with a professionally landscaped, large parking area. Inside the clubhouse were expansive rooms for various levels of club memberships. There's a feeling of, perhaps, Disney World here. This is obviously a place that hosts large social events and sells premium wine memberships. If this is what you have in mind during your visit to Willamette Valley then you'll be set.

Thank you for your feedback. So you are aware, we do not charge cards in advance. While we do require a credit card to hold the reservation, we do not charge the experience until after you have enjoyed it. We do keep the gate closed, as people tend to wander up to the space and we may not always be able to accommodate them. This allows us to better service the guests that have made reservations. I am thrilled that Shardé provided a memorable experience. please keep us in mind the next time you are in the valley.

I had the pleasure of visiting Domaine Serene recently for a wine tasting experience, and I must say it was truly exceptional. From the moment we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Melina, whose high-spirited and warm personality set a positive tone for our visit.

The wines are exceptional, but it's the people who are the heart and soul of Domaine Serene, and they are what make each visit a joyous experience.
