Spent a couple hours plodding up the hill to the top of Dimple Hill. Great walk, varied forest is a mix of Douglas Fir (Psuedotsuga Menziesii, Hemlock and mixed deciduous. Varied soils. Trail had mostly a crushed basalt on the surface so would be OKAY in the rain. I noticed the great work on drainage, some water bars and culverts... More

Walk my dog in McD forest several times each week - great for an off-leash romp once you get off on the forest roads and trails. Also love for mountain biking from spring through fall - in one hour I can do more than 1000' of climbing, some great downhill, relatively easy single track (but have crashed occasionally), and get... I'm always looking for great places to hike in the Willamette Valley and OSU's McDonald-Dunn Research Forest is among the best. There are many miles of scenic trails here and no shortage of ways to get a great workout and see some scenic beauty. It's interesting to view the many different species of trees planted here, some originating from other... More

We housesat nearby for about a month, and we took the dog for daily walks in the forest. The extensive trail network meant we rarely hiked the same trail twice. The history of the forest is really interesting, some of the interpretive trails have signage, and the moss-covered trees in fall were just stunning! Lots of trails have trees overhead... More

The McDonald-Dunn Research Forest offers a variety of hikes from easy to strenuous. The trails are well maintained and there is nothing quite as invigorating as a hike in Oregon woods. Pets on a leash are welcome.

Beautiful forest with well-kept trails. It is very large so it can be easy to get lost. There are also some really nice views.

Beautiful Park on Zinfandel ln. On Vineyard Mt. Best starting point...this is a community of really nice houses....don't worry just park on Zinfandel and they won't tow or your vehicle won't get broken into.

A nice forestry place for hiking and exploring nature.Good for bird-watcher too. There are water ways that we found insects, fishes, frogs and so on. Beware of poison oats though. They can be easily be found by the trail. So always remain on trail and not wonder off.

My family and I -- including dog -- use the forest almost every day, certainly multiple times during the week, rain or shine. Fire roads provide easy access (not recommended for wheelchairs) to quiet paths, periodic bridges over streams and many miles of foot paths. Watch for sporadic mountain bikers -- heavier in some areas -- but the trails are... More
