About
Thunder Island Brewing Company is an adventure-based small batch brewery that is handcrafting creative and innovative beers in the Pacific Northwest. Based out of the city of Cascades Locks, forty-three miles east of Portland, Thunder Island Brewing makes original beers inspired by a love for outdoor adventures, with a nod to local history and with a respect for all that the scenic Columbia River Gorge has to offer. Thunder Island Brewing is fully dedicated to producing quality handcrafted beers. As of July 2014, the Brewery is now serving food and is an all-ages brewpub. A big thank you to our customers for your patience as we have been expanding, remodeling and growing over the last year. Cheers!

Just visited with my husband and parents. As this is a brewery with food I'll split my review into two parts, food and beer.
Beer: my husband and I shared a flight of 8, this included all of their current taps as well as 2 guest taps. For starters they had a good variety of beer, everything from hefes to portors to saisons however at the moment they do not have any IPAs on tap. As I'm not a big IPA person this isn't a big deal. The beer on a whole was good but none of them stood out as spectacular. My family are big brewery goers so we have a lot to compare to but on a whole it was good beer.
The food on the other hand was very good. I had the portobello sandwich, my mom had the chicken pesto club and my husband and dad had the BLT. I tried all, and would say they are very good. My sandwich was incredible and the BLT (which is one of my least favorite sandwich types) was even good.
Overall I would say if you are in the area, check this place out.

I stopped here with three friends for lunch on a raw, rainy day. We all decided to have the pork chili, and we all loved it! The chili was thick and nicely spicy. It came with a small house salad and a couple of pieces of cheese bread. It was a great way to warm up and just the right size for lunch. Although I didn't have any beer, my friends said it was very good.
The brewpub is right on the Columbia River with views of the Bridge of the Gods. There was outside seating, under a cover and with a fire nearby, but we opted to go inside. The brewpub is past the port offices - watch for the small signs.
I noticed a big children's playground about a half mile from the brewery. It is on the right just after you go under the railroad tracks as you come down to the park area from Cascade Locks's main street.

Stopped in today for a quick pint. Really good beer (I had the Mosaic Pale Ale). I was offered a tour of the brewery. As a homebrewer, I enjoyed hearing the what and why of their ingredients choices.

I have never be this offended before in my lifetime. I stopped for one beer with a family friend and we were asked to leave. I am 67 and been on both sides of the bar. We were definitely not under the influence of alcohol. We talked with people near us and were not offensive to anyone. I am not aware of anything that anyone would have complained about. We have zero clue where thing went sideways .

My wife and I stopped in here for lunch on our way to Hood River. It is a small place with beautiful outdoor seating directly next to the river and Thunder Island. The view was stellar and the food was outstanding. I'd go back in a minute.

Toward the end of a long road trip, we stopped to stretch pour legs at the Marine Park in Cascade Locks. We noticed a pub signboard pointing west, past the port office - never been that direction before. Surprise - a cute/funky little brew pub hidden around the corner. It was a nice evening, so we sat outside and took in the view of the river and Bridge of the Gods. Very relaxing! Good food selection, great beer, and excellent service! We especially enjoyed the Chinidere Dark Belgian.

Swung off of the interstate to see the Locks area and to my pleasure.....here is Thunder Island Brewery!!! I had read its reviews and was so glad I took the detour.
Grabbed a rich stout and enjoyed the peaceful rivers' edge view with my wife.
A very satisfying stop on our way to Hood River!
Good job and "thumbs up" to Thunder Island Brewing

We were looking for a rock show that wasn't happening, and we stumbled across the Thunder Island brewing Company. So glad we did! I enjoyed the Belgian blonde, but settled on the Scotch Porter. Really tasty brew! I also had the delicious Northwestern salad with baby greens, cranberries, hazelnuts, and blue cheese. The service was friendly, and having a cold brew on a hot summer day next to the Columbia River was awesome! Highly recommended!

Thunder Island Brewing is a fantastic place to stop and take in the beauty of the gorge while sipping away at some stellar beers. Ok, I have to admit, I don't drink, but my friends had plenty of Dave's yummy brew - and I could tell by the smiles on their faces that it was premium stuff. Not only that but I also sat captivated as Dave passionately explained the various features of each brew that was available. He loves what he does, and it shows.
Another nice aspect of the brewery is that Dave doesn't hide all his equipment away while folks taste secluded from all the brew action. The brewing equipment takes center stage and is available for all to see. His beer sanctuary spares one the frills and yet is a comfortable and inviting space to share with friends and fellow connoisseurs. It's not without decor. Tasteful biking photos, unused climbing equipment, and attractive polished rocks and cut stones occupy the walls and shelves.
I especially loved the outdoor drinking/dining area. On a cool July evening, I dozed off several times while soaking in the heat from the lovely fire-pit. Sadly there are trains nearby. Like practically in your lap. At one point I was about to jump the fence and dive for cover as I was sure a train had derailed just on the other side of the brewery, but apparently that's a normal train sound. It didn't bother me except when I went to sleep at the campground. Earplugs helped.
The location of the brewery is an excellent place to view the Bridge of the Gods, Thunder Island itself, and all the interesting activities taking place by the riverside. Most of those activities involve fishing, but there are sailboats on the river and campers scurrying around Marine Park. And what other location offers fresh caught salmon only seconds from the water and onto your grill? Not many that I know of. Another plus - free camping for bikers! No reservation was necessary though they may be required at some point in the future. And I believe there's even free wifi at the campground.
It's in the gorge in a quaint historic town near the site of a legendary land bridge across the Columbia River. The beer (so my friends tell me) is top notch, the food was delicious, the bike riding from there is amazing, and the folks are friendly and inviting. Stop by. Find out for yourself.
Thanks Dave, Caroline and Dan!

Wonderful craft beer, new business and they are working crazy to get the food things going, right now food is only snacks, but eventually they will have meals.
