We had an awesome day with Jess! 6 of us on the boat and we all reeled in at least 2 Sturgeon each within a few hours. He is knowledgeable about the area and the different fish in the Columbia. He has a clean, comfortable boat, with high sides and nice gear. He has been fishing most of his life and he had us on the fish all day long. He communicates promptly leading up to the trip and makes sure to teach you what works to have a great day on the water! We highly recommend Jess and look forward to fishing with him again on a return trip to this area!

We had a great time with Jess, a real pro. Was exciting to have a real fishing experience, especially for our 16 year old son. We caught bait fish and then got to catch and release sturgeon. We also saw bald eagles along the way, as Jess pointed them out, and lots of beautiful waterfalls. Was a great day and wonderful memory for our family. We’ll do this again!

My brother in law and myself booked in for a days Sturgeon fishing with Jess. We caught 21 Sturgeon between us. It was an excellent day with Jess very informative about fishing and the area. We were lucky to have the boat just for us. I caught my biggest fish ever a 67 lb Sturgeon. Recommend the company highly. We will be calling to book in next year as well. The Columbia river is well worth a visit.

Booked a two day fishing trip with Always Catchin. The first day went very well, caught 2 nice size salmons. At almost midnight before our next fishing day we get a phone call from the fishing guides wife. Jess had to cancel because he supposably was fighting a fire all night and had to cancel our trip. His wife asked if we were on a time scehdule. Well yea, he knows we are from Boise Idaho , of course we are on a time schedule. So our fishing trip got cancelled. So here we are out the money for the KOA campground and the cost of the fishing license and no fishing trip. If you have other jobs dont be a fishing guide unless you have the trips covered by someone else so you arent wasting peoples money. We will never use this company again!

Did you know that 70% of all firefighters in the United States are volunteers? Did you know that if they didn't show up because they already have a job, that many fire trucks and ambulances would never show up? I am a volunteer firefighter and EMT for my community, and have been since I was 16 years old. Firefighting is my 1st passion, and fishing is my second. When my community calls for help, I go. Many of my calls are in the middle of the night. When someone falls out of bed and needs help back up, I go. When their is a domestic call that leads to injury in the middle of the night, and they need a ride in the ambulance to the hospital, I go. If their is a car accident on the freeway in the middle of the night, I go. Sometimes I make it home with little to no sleep, and still take people fishing. If I am on a major wildfire that takes several days, I have to make the hard decision to cancel my fishing trips which pay for my families roof, food, etc. That fire burned about 11% of the mountain range, 4,000 structures, several fatalities, over 10% of the state's residents were under some level of evacuation advisory and lead to hazardous air quality across the Northwestern United States, and you want to complain that I had to cancel your fishing trip? I don't take cancelling on you lightly, and I am very sorry I had to. But if given the choice to cancel your fishing trip, or not go on a major fire that is endangering people, homes and livelihoods, I'm going to choose the fire. You did get your deposit for the trip back, and we did show you a good time on the first day. I wish more people would consider how their actions effect others before they say such hurtful things on websites like these, unless they really don't care about other people. I thought people from Idaho were different. Community people that watch out for each other. Hard working people that understand when bad things happen, good people step up, sacrifice, and help their community.

The captain warned we may not be able to fish. We understood but our son wanted nothing more than to catch a sturgeon. We flew 2500 miles for this trip and wanted to give our son any opportunity. We were in Oregon for a limited amount of time. Once we got out on the water the captain seemed both rushed and agitated. He lost four fish and then called the trip after 1 hour and 30 minutes. We paid a $1000 for an eight hour trip and he refused to work with us on taking another trip with him or refunding any of our money. I understand he was annoyed he had to go out after warning us about the weather however there was no reason whatsoever to be ugly to us and our son.

I am very sorry you were so unhappy about your trip you decided to comment so negatively. Especially since we communicated so much before the trip about the wind being a problem, and that I would give it my best, but that I didn't think we would be able to stay out very long. You had already scheduled several other fishing trips with other people, one of which you said had also been cancelled due to weather. I asked if we could move our trip to another day that looked like better weather, and you said you had a set schedule for me on Thursday, and another fishing trip scheduled for Saturday with someone else. I understand how difficult it is to travel a long distance for a vacation, and try to make plans to do things. Unfortunately I can't control the weather. I can't control if fish bite or not, and we didn't really have much time to make a good go at it. I was surprised to see this negative comment since we parted amicably, and you acted like you understood the situation. Also being a small business owner yourself, would understand my inability to refund money to every person who complains, or things don't work out the way they want. I would have refunded your money if we were unable to go out, but you were very insistent on trying come what may. I am sorry we were unable to make any of those bites work. I truly am. I get no joy out of people having a bad time, or not catching fish. I got into this business because I love to see the faces, hear and see the excitement, of people when they catch a fish. I honestly want my guests to catch fish more then they want to because of the joy I get out of it, and the feeling of accomplishment that I worked hard and gave you a great experience. If you felt I was ugly to you, I am sorry. I try to be honest and upfront about how the fishing is, what the expectation is, and if the weather is bad. Perhaps my frustration about the weather not cooperating and the added stress of trying to make your trip a good one with high winds blowing us all over and making the bite hard to see showed through. It was my frustration with myself. I don't want to lose money, and that's what would have happened if I had just cancelled on you, but I hoped I could make something happen in the short time we had. I'm sorry you felt I didn't try my best either, because I do every time I go out.

We went out on Jess's boat in mid September to catch Salmon. My husband being a rather experienced fisherman was really looking forward to it. However, it turned out Jess didn't let anyone do anything with the fishing poles except reel in the fish once you got a bite! It wasn't really like fishing at all. He even pushed my husband to the side when he thought he wasn't reeling in the fish properly. And when I lost my fish under the motor, his immediate comment was "I told you not to follow the fish!" As if I didn't already feel bad enough that the motor cut the line.
We felt the entire trip he was stressed about finding fish (we didn't catch anything the 1st two hours even though other boats around us did). But of course in the end we caught 4 fish on our boat with 6 people.
I would recommend looking into other companies if you want to do real fishing, and have a more friendly guide. The scenery was absolutely stunning at least!

Went in July & September caught nothing. Guide, jess, acted like he didn't want to be there. Didn't know where the fish were. After 6 hours no fish. He called another guide to find fish. All he wanted to talk about is the money he could make with a second boat

We recently did a 1 day 8 hour Oversized Sturgeon trip with Jess below Bonneville Dam. Started the day having to go find shad floating in the river as he didn't have enough bait right away, which was fine cause I got to see the experience and learn about it. we had set up designated rods as there were 5 total clients in the boat that day, but there were these 2 stupid annoying guys talking like they knew everything and kept setting rods and missing fish. we all eventually got our fish for the day, but these 2 annoying gentlemen had Jess booked for 2 days and there was one guy that never caught a Sturgeon, Jess said one more fish and we were done for the day. So these 2 freaking guys sat right at the bow of the boat, right on the rods. I was on Rod number 2 and it went off, this guy snags the rod up right in front of me and gets the fish. I wish Jess just kindly asked the gentle man to sit down and not right in front of everyone where we cant see the rods. completely un professional and shouldn't of happened as it happened all day long. No wonder they said their wives don't fish with them. they got fat heads lol. Jess, if you see this, please take your clients into consideration into allowing all of your clients to see their rods and not let people sit right on your gunnels, blocking views of everyone and you sat at the front of your own boat chilling. Again, we all go nice fighting explosive fish, but the client control wasn't very well managed. we had a great time as well. but that should of been handled better.

We booked Always Catchin’ for my Dad’s 70th birthday. He can’t stop talking about it. He caught 2 of the 3 large King Salmon we brought in. The boat was top notch and Jess, our guide knew where to go. We seem to be the only ones catching fish. We’ve been on several deep sea fishing trips, and this was way more fun. Jess filets the salmon for you, and we had it for dinner that same night. Had to buy a cooler to take home everything we could not eat. Also appreciated the tips to visit the local Bonneyville dam. Saw the salmon going up the fish ladder and the massive turbines the power 900,000 homes. Would go fishing again any day! Thanks for a memorable experience!

"Always Catching" is a great way to fish on the Columbia River. We have always caught fish with Jess, and he is extremely helpful with teaching children technics to catch fish. His equipment is well maintained and his boat is covered so that in the rain you can hide out!
