Beautiful location for a park
Sep 2021
Tolovano park is in the middle of Cannon Beach and is really the only place where you can see the Sea Stacks that Cannon Beach is known for. Being there in the midst of the COVID pandemic was interesting since there were few people on the beach and it was so much easier to view the Sea Stacks. Those are definitely worth it.

Easily accessible
Sep 2019
This is a nice beach and easily accessible. There was plenty of free parking while we were there. Summer high season might be different though. Nice, soft sand at this beach. I went in the water up to my thighs and a few other people were in and out of the water. It was cold but it still felt very good ! Current seemed pretty strong so prodeed with caution. Close to Canon Beach and nowhere near as crowded.

Cute little park with direct beach access and clean rest areas. Great place to park and walk over to Haystack Rock. just down the street from downtown - can park and walk even, everything is within less than a mile away

Southern extension of Cannon Beach
Aug 2019
Tolovana Beach is effectively the southern extension of Cannon Beach, which is perhaps the most popular beach along the northern Oregon coast because of its direct and easy access from Portland. It's fronted by numerous vacation hotels, condos, etc., so it's sometimes pretty crowded. But if you're not looking for solitude, the people can be a fun added ingredient. It's not as popular or stunning as Cannon Beach with its iconic haystack rock, where there are tide pools at low tide and puffins to see. But like Cannon Beach it stretches north and south for quite a ways, so you can walk in the sand and surf to your heart's content. And there are several public restrooms at key beach access and parking lot points. Unless you have parking with a rental unit, etc., expect to spend a while searching for parking, so plan accordingly.

Beautiful Clean Beach
Jun 2019 • Family
The beach is clean with nice white sand. The beach is wide so you don't have to worry as much about the tide coming in. It's a nice walk from here to Haystack Rock or in the other direction are also some nice rock formations to walk to.

Those Massive boulders are renowned!
Aug 2018 • Couples
I was so fascinated with the Tolovana Beach State Recreation Site.

When I came in, it was still foggy. Then, bit by bit we could see the beauty of the beach.

Everybody were admiring these massive rocks.

There was some driftwood.

There were houses nearby.

There were some tide pools as well.

The attraction was the massive boulders.

This is a must see!

You must stop here, especially if you're a fan of the Goonies
Apr 2019 • Solo
If you're familiar with the Goonies, you may recall a road race on the beach at the start of the movie. This is that beach. I've been wanting to come here and nearby Astoria ever since I was a kid growing up in the 1980s, and this visit was akin to being on a pilgrimage. If you're a fan of the Goonies movie, you'll understand where I'm coming from.

You'll find plenty of ample parking at Tolovana State Park, plus it's free! It wasn't at all crowded, and I stayed for almost an hour. But, I did visit in late April, so I can't say for certain how crazy it may get during the summer months. The weather was perfect, sunny and with almost no clouds. Take a moment to look over the signs at the stairs that lead to the beach. Puffins nest on the rocks starting in April, and I'm sure I saw one or two, but it was hard to tell for certain.

The Oregon coast is stunning, and only a 1.5 hour ride from Portland (which is also very scenic as you pass through farmland, mountains and forest). Make it a point to come visit the beach at low tide, and you can walk right up to Haystack rock and check out the tidal pools.

After here, you can go into the town of Cannon Beach, park in a public lot and do a little shopping or grab a bite to eat.

Great stop, free parking
Apr 2019 • Couples
This has all the things...free parking, restrooms and immediate beach access. We walked all the way up to Haystack Rock, then had a small picnic and walked back. A nice stop for an hour or more AND you can bike the beach!
