Excellent state park! We stayed at Harris Beach SP over the Thanksgiving holiday. Many of the campsites were closed for the season which is was somewhat of a mixed blessing. On the plus side, it was not crowded--this would be a cramped park during the peak season. But because of the closures, we were not able to reserve a site with all the amenities we wanted. We still enjoyed the park though! It was clean and beautiful. Lots of trees and greenery. The RV site was spacious. The camp host and staff were friendly. The beach is amazing! The walk to the beach is very close and there's a spacious parking lot right at the beach along with restrooms. We walked out early for the sunrise and back again for the sunset. It was really lovely. The park itself is just at the north end of town (Brookings) so it's only a mile or two to the grocery store and lots of good restaurants. Dogs are only allowed on the beach with leashes (which is like demanding that kids not run on the playground).

Beautiful beach. Super easy to access. I almost skipped this one along my PNW roadtrip, thinking it was just a nice beach but more interesting things to see. So glad we stopped! It was of course a beautiful beach with lots of interesting rock formations. But additionally, we walked out to the left towards some rocks and saw so many star fish and other creatures. You could keep going and see waves crashing through an arched rock. We could have spent way more time here

This is one of the best Oregon beaches we have stayed at..Clean & well kept up. Very well organized and every spot was nice. The first 7 or 8 are the best because they have a beach view. But all in all very nice the way they are set up. There are also Yurks in case you dont have an RV. I am betting these fill up quick because they are nice in size and also well kept. Definitely going back here real soon..

A beautiful park. Campsites are spacious. We are tent campers. Ended up sleeping in the car last night because of backup alarms and slamming noises from the nearby mill that went on all night. If you have an RV probably OK. Wish the Oregon Parks people had warned us. “Camping” has become parking the little house on wheels.

Stayed a night in the campground and visited the beach. The beach with the rocks and sand was beautiful. At low tide we saw a lot of sea anemone and orange and purple starfish. The campground was pretty nice but a lot of the sites were on the small side.

This was our second summer to travel to Harris beach. We rented a Yurt which has become
our favorite way to camp. The camp sites are very clean, close to the ocean, close to the town to pick up
any last minutes things needed and a very quaint town. Can't wait to go back Summer of 2020.

I just visited many places in Oregon, including a couple nights of camping at Harris Beach State Park. My experience at Harris Beach was excellent.
The campground is not too big nor too small. I noticed that me, my sister, and my cousin were the only young campers there. Everyone else was (excuse my judgements) retired or a family with young kids. There really were no teenagers around and the place was always pretty quiet. The campsites have trees and plants that provide privacy but I noticed some of the sites had no privacy at all. I made my reservations a minimum of 2 days in advance and completely lucked out. I believe our tent site, B9, to be the best in the campground. If you are going with a tent I strongly recommend you try to reserve B9. You won't be dissapointed. There was even a rabbit living somewhere around there, and he visited us a few times to munch on some grass while we ate our own food. It was pleasant and relaxing, though we weren't at the site too much during the day.
The beach itself is very beautiful. The water, sand, and rock formations are gorgeous. You can swim in the water because there are plenty of places with enough space between rocks. I went in mid-August and the water was cold but manageable. It's really cool because the water is really shallow pretty far out. I was treaded through the water and I saw a big crab 'swimming' around in the surf a few feet away. I had fun running and evading the 'killer' crab. It was cool.
The rocks are protected by Oregon's fish and wildlife department because they are breeding grounds for birds. You can be fined for climbing onto the rocks. However, there are some rocks that are attached to the land and me and my cousin were exploring them. I took some cool photos from the top of one and we were just relaxing and smoking on the top of the rock while enjoy the crashing water and the view. A local told me that no one really gets hassled about the rocks attached to the land. If you go you should definitely climb to the top of the one I have pictured with a arrow pointing to me and my cousin (the white and black specks). There are two ways up and down; a hard way and a medium way. Take your pick. On the other side of the rock, there are tidepools with a lot of sea life. Those are pretty cool, as well.
Theres a hill near the parking lot that features a group of fat squirrels that have grown accustomed to striking cute poses for food. We took a few moments to feed them. There is one evil squirrel who I caught on video attacking my thumb and trying to take my hand away. It was funny.
If you are driving up or down the pacific coast on the 101 you must stop at Harris Beach. Theres plenty of signage that alerts you to the campsite and day use area. It's a great place to stop and rest, enjoy the Oregon coast (the first great place if you're coming from California after you pass through Brookings), and to eat some lunch.
It's a great place to camp and a great beach to enjoy. You won't be dissapointed with Harris Beach.

Harris Beach State Park has both a camping area and a day-use area. The camping area is up on a bluff, under trees. A few of the sites have an ocean view, but those must be reserved well in advance. About a third of the sites have hookups for RVs and are large enough for 5th wheels and longer motorhomes.
We were staying in a nearby oceanfront RV park, and drove here to visit the day-use area. The access is via a paved road down the hill. There is an adequately sized parking lot with no day-use fee.
The south side of the beach is wheelchair accessible with a concrete ramp, so anybody who is mobility impaired is able get right down to the sand. The north side has easy access down a footpath. The beach is flat, although due to the terrain it's shaped in a sort of cove, so you can have a nice walk but the beach here does not go for miles and miles.
The scenery is just lovely! There are offshore rocks and if the tide is up the ocean waves splash over them. Climbing any rocks, even those close to shore, is not recommended for this reason - you never know when a rogue wave may sweep you off the rocks.
A very nice park to spend a day or just make a pleasant stop along your journey.

We have ejoyed going to Oregon beaches for the last three years with our dog. When we went To Harris beach took our dog down to the surf let her run a bit. and put her back on her leash. There were about 30 dogs on the beach 1/2 on 1/2 off leashes all behaving. When we got to the top of the cliff the campground owner started yelling at me for letting my dog run around. When my wife got to the top a park ranger in a golf cart started in on her. He said there are no beaches in Oregon where your dog can be off a leash. So I took him a copy of Brookings Chamber of Comerce magizine which has two couples walking on the beach with no leashes. Went back to visitor center to tell what had happen and told them they would not get penny from us. Also asked a policeman if there was a BofA bank in town and he he acted like I wasting his time and told me he had not idea rudely.

Harris Beach is the easiest-to-find example of the spectacular ocean beauty near Brookings. I've camped there and enjoyed the campground, which is open even during some portions of the winter. There are three main beaches, each with great views of the ocean, sea stacks, and tide pools. The southernmost is accessible via a long black-topped path from the first parking lot as you enter the park; at low tide you can walk for a mile, at high tide about half a mile. The "main" beach is accessible from the ramps and stairs at the SE end of the day-use area; the farther SE you go, the more rugged the tidepools and sea stacks. You reach the north beach from the day-use area, too, at the NW end of the parking lot where a path goes down to Harris Creek; cross it and walk north (even better tidepools); at low tide, keep going past the rocks, and you can walk for at least a mile past little sea stacks with sea palms growing on them, all the way to Rainbow Rock Beach, which has more tidepools and even some caves. I've seen seals, sea otters, gulls & cormorants & oyster catchers & pelicans, lots of small marine critters like sea stars, "sunflower stars," various kinds of chitons.... Truly wonderful place. I make a point of visiting at least every two weeks and as the sea conditions change.

I went there to relax; not to surf the web. So I never tried to use it. But I believe the answer is No. Check the oregon state parks web sites for a better answer. If you really need it; I'm sure you can get it in Brookings at Fred Meyers Starbucks...

Does this park accept big rigs?

I just reviewed some of the spaces with Harris Beach;. There are some that have 50' driveways. My thoughts for you, would be to view their website. (Try their website - Oregon S P .o r g) View things until you get to Harris Beach..... I see that they are open for campers right now. However; most folks know of the 9 month advance reservations and definitely utilize that. Best of Luck in your camping. It's a great place to visit..

If you park in the parking lot near the beach there is no charge. But if you go into the campsite area there is a fee for overnight parking. I believe it’s $7 a day

Do any of the yurts have bathrooms or are close to them?

None of them at Harris beach have bathrooms, but most of them are very close to them. I have heard they may be putting a couple of the Deluxe Yurts in. That means, toilet and shower.
