We visited Tumalo Creek's Sunriver location. My teen boys are both experienced kayakers, but it was my and my 10-year old's first time. We put in at LaPine State Park and drifted with the river to Big River campground, which is about 9 1/2 miles of smooth water with a decent current. It's not too deep, either, in most places.... Fantastic kayak ride Ride lasts about 2 hours. You kayak against the current on the first part then turn around (before the Rapids) and float back down. The water isn't deep and is flat bottomed. The river is busy with kayaks, canoes and tubes but is very wide. Staff helps you get in and out of the kayak. Price is... More

Great experience. The guides did a terrific job of helping and letting people do their thing. Be aware that the suggested list of things you should bring is season dependent. We paddled in summer so all we needed was footwear that could get wet, water bottles and sun protection.

We had a good teacher, Bob, who showed us all we needed to know about kayaking safety and the different types of kayaks. It was a beautiful day in Bend to be on the river. As we are an older couple, not sure if we would do this again in the Deschutes River. Our upper arms got really tired. Really... More

My husband and I did this on a 90 degree afternoon. We rented for 2 hours. It's a fun, relaxing way to spend the day. The shuttle from Drake Park was easy to catch- be sure to have exact change, 3.00 per rider.

I've been wanting to try stand up paddleboarding and took the basic SUP class. It was so much easier than what I thought it would be. The instructor Sue Fox was AWESOME. Sue made it so much fun and she was very encouraging. I would take any class Sue instructs. SUP is a must to try if you are visiting... More

If you're in Bend, floating the river is a must. If you're renting your tube do yourself a favor and rent for Tumalo Creek located near the Old Mill District in Bend (big red barn). We floated the river twice last week and the first float we rented with Sun Country Tours. We had to leave a drivers license or... More

We rented 2 tandem kayaks (with 2 young children) and went on the shuttle from the Sunriver location for a 9 mile trip on the river. John joined us and we had a wonderful time enjoying the weather, scenery, wildlife, quietness and company. Thanks John for being so casually delightful on this summer afternoon!
