About
Our main attraction is whitewater rafting on the Upper Deschutes through Big Eddy rapids. This trip is approximately 90 minutes round trip with an hour spent floating and navigating the rapids of Big Eddy! In 3 miles you will encounter two class 1, two class 2 and five class 3 rapids! This trip is suitable for all skill levels from age 6 and up. We take photos in the class 3 section and are available for purchase as a memento of your trip. We also offer Stand Up Paddle Board tours which explore the calm waters of the Upper Deschutes River. These guided tours are a great way to learn about the geology while seeing places that are not frequently traveled. In the winter season the resort property is transformed into a winter wonderland that features an ice skating rink that is open to the public.

My 12 yr. old daughter and I booked a reservation with Seventh Mountain River Company to do the "Big Eddy" river rafting experience on August 16, 2021 at 11:30 a.m.

I received a reminder, confirmation email from the company making us aware of our upcoming reservation and what to bring & wear etc. and this was appreciated. The Seventh Mountain Resort is a very beautify resort hotel near the Deschutes National Forest. First class resort all the way, although we did not stay there.

As you arrive on the large property, there are signs clearly telling you were to go and park for river rafting guests. You are recommended to wear swim suits, water shoes or sports sandals.

You can bring a towel and you will leave your valuables (wallet, cell phone, keys) on the locked bus, so bring a pouch or something to put your valuables in. They tell you not to bring your cell phones, because they will get wet or end up in the river. You have been duly warned!

We checked in about 20 minutes early and completed the waivers and paid the fee. They have a nice gift shop and bathroom to use and change clothes should you need to.

Once everyone has gathered, you board a "school bus" and begin the short 15 minute drive to the river. Once there, everyone grabs a life jacket (PFD) and fits it to your body. They check everyone and help you prior to getting into the rafts. No worries.

Our guide was Ryan and he was very helpful and informative. We had 3 adults and 3 kids on our raft along with our guide, Ryan. Everyone boards and paddles are passed out and we're off. Ryan gave everyone some basic safety instructions and commands on how to paddle.

The river is gentle for the most part. Fortunately, it was a hot, clear sunny day when went. We saw two river otters swimming and an osprey's nest. The river and surrounding forest are very beautiful.

We approached several rapids and got very wet. Everyone loved it, especially the kids. The river has several class 3 rapids and are very fun to run. After getting through some of the rapids, you can slide into the river and swim for a bit. The company also has two photographers that take pictures of all the rafts coming down the river.

Our time doing the "Big Eddy" was enjoyable and memorable. The whole thing including the bus rides to and from the river is about 90 minutes, with about 60 minutes of actual river time. Once back, you can purchase pictures of your trip for $35. We purchased them and we received 17 nice, action packed photos.

I highly recommend doing the "Big Eddy" rafting trip with your family and friends and the Seventh Mountain River Company is a professionally run company who runs a well oiled machine when it comes to river rafting.

Cayla was the best guide we could have asked for during our recent bachelorette trip. Not only was she funny and lighthearted, she made us feel safe and adventurous. 10/10 would recommend her for any upcoming rafting in Bend… you won’t be disappointed! Thank you endlessly! - Camp Machelorette

Had a great time out on the Deschutes! Our guide (who went by his last name, I believe it was Goetz, pronounced "Gets") was excellent - a great balance of knowing when to let us loose and knowing what danger spots to keep us safe from. Enjoyed getting in the cold water on a hot day, and loved going through the rapids. I believe the name of the spot we went through was simply the "big eddy". Would highly recommend going out with Seventh Mountain if you're in the area and looking for a great time on the river!

I admit I was a bit apprehensive about my first rafting adventure. Everything from the check in to the short ride down to the river then onto the boat was smooth and well thought out. I have 3 children (10, 12 & 14) that accompanied my husband and I so I was a bit concerned about their safety. Our guide, Wellman, was amazing. He calmed my fears right away and gave specific and precise instructions to our group in a light hearted, relaxed manner so as to put us nervous folks at ease. My kids felt completely safe which put this mama's worried mind to rest. The trip from start to finish was FUN! We played trivia games while in smooth water. We played games that involved someone going overboard (so we could learn how to pull them back in if anyone fell out). We practiced as a team to steer the raft and to maneuver in the rapids. We also got WET! Thank goodness it was a nice warm day. The rapids were not that difficult but still got the adrenaline pumping. From start to finish we had a great time! Highly recommend the following things...
1. Sunscreen - do not forget it!
2. Wear light clothing - you get quite wet and won't want extra clothing weighing you down.
3. Have fun!! Joke and laugh and get in the water.
4. RIDE THE BULL! If you don't know what this means, you will soon enough.
5. Tip your guide. They work really hard and keeping you safe and entertained. Awesome men and women out there!

The staff is outstanding! Katrina in the recreation building helped us get tubes rented and a pump so we could fit them in our car and float the river. The next day we went rafting and she again was just so helpful and friendly. Jay our bus driver was fun and got everyone excited about the trip. Carl got great photos, along with Jay. Jen was our guide and had a love of rafting and shared that with us. She made sure everyone felt comfortable and explained safety procedures and paddling commands as well as shared her many experiences with us. It was a blast and we were happy we chose Seventh Mountain! Jen also had plenty of great suggestions for other fun things to do in Bend.

Fantastic experience! We had a diverse group from younger kids, to teenagers, to parents and grandparents and our guide Luke was excellent, he got everyone comfortable with everything and showed us a really great time on the water, I'd definitely ask for him again. He even recommended a taco place for dinner that ended up being a hit with the whole group!
Having the rafting company right there at Seventh Mtn Resort where we were staying was super convenient and it seemed pretty reasonably priced. All in all, I don't see how it could gone any better, we will definitely do this again next time we're in the area.

Very fun trip through several class three rapids on the Deschutes River. Exhilarating but not too scary, thanks to our awesome guide Soleil. He gave us great paddling instructions and then we saw how hard he was working in the photos afterwards! We also enjoyed swimming/floating in the river past the rapids.

Took a kayak tour above Dillon Falls with Nick as our guide and had a wonderful time. He did a great job encouraging us rookies but not pushing us, teaching us a little about the region, and making us feel relaxed and at-ease. I’d definitely recommend.

Thank you for the review on our flat-water tour! With most of the attention being on our rafting operations we have overlooked guides like Nick who are passionate and love showing others the tamer sections of the Deschutes. I will be sure to let Nick know of your review.

I would HIGHLY recommend going on this white water rafting adventure!!

It was a beautiful day and we had the best guide - Matt Mueller. He was a clear communicator and brought a very positive and personable energy to the experience. It was my first time rafting at this location so I enjoyed the fun facts he shared and the trivia questions (related to the area). He made it so stress free, kept us laughing and gave us the chance to play a few fun games as well!

Even the bus ride to the river and back was fun and comical - thank you Justin!!
