State parks, including this one, around the country are falling into horrible customer service habits. They want full fees and only provide partial or in this case no bathroom or shower facilities. At least discount the price somewhat to offset the lack of facilities.
Not to mention you can tell not much maintenance has been applied here. we visited Victor Landing campground. Eroded table slabs, tree debris and muddy table areas were common.
We stayed 1 night and only because it was later in the day and didn’t want to drive any longer.
Hey OK State Parks!! Wake up and give your visitors some value which might encourage good news to travel and revisits a better possibility. If I had run my business the way your park here is, I would not have lasted very long.
Clean, keep up on deferred maintenance, at least place some clean porta potties, and ask a little less for sites when new facilities are being built.
Only 2 campers there on 01242022.

Lake itself, scenic views were absolutely amazing. However, this seems to be a lower budget State Park. I have been to many state parks in Oklahoma where the campgrounds themselves were much more updated and well kept. Don't get me wrong, landscape, grass etc was great, the following, not so much. We stayed at Victor Campground RV sites. First, the 12 mile roads to the actual entrance are horrendous! Potholes everywhere, the entire road. Signage makes it difficult to work yourself around the park itself. Bad thing about that is, in every campground I have visited the camp host is right at the entrance, you see them visiting and answering questions, very friendly and inviting. Victor campground hosts?? Non existent to answer anything, their site looked broke down and the only time we saw them they were throwing water out of their RV? Not a great "welcoming impression." Now there are some really nice sites however we were a few away from the boat ramp, very loud most of the day, kids screaming, shoreline up and down where we walked to fish had trash everywhere!! Worst part of this site was, boat ramp had a HUGE light that was on ALL NIGHT and it was like going to sleep while it was still light outside. Lastly, most parks have little shops in them where you can get ice, drinks etc.. Wister has none of these and the nearest one from our campground was 12 miles from the nearest place. One huge positive, the campers around us were great, ate at D&J's shop and breakfast burritos were AMAZING!!

Peaceful beautiful surroundings that offer a great getaway in a simple rustic cabin over looking the lake. Pet friendly. Be prepared to furnish your own cookware and dinner placements if you decide to use the stove, microwave, coffeemaker, or toaster. We had to make a quick run to Dollar General for mugs.

Spent a night as the solitary tent camper in the Wister Ridge campground above the lake. Despite poor park signage, I was able to find the campground. Within the campground, sites are poorly marked and barely separated from one another and there is no water at the camp sites. To get water, you need go to the gnarly bathrooms, filled with flies but not with toilet paper.
The boat launch is a problem as well. At the base of a steep hill and degraded. Thankfully, my kayak is an inflatable and was an easy carry down the hill. The lake is an Army Corps reservoir. On this day, it featured pelicans, very cool.

This was our first trip to Wister State Park. The park has a nice setting and is beautiful. They have some nice playgrounds for the kids and the campsites were nice but kinda close together. We got to get out and enjoy some of the trails and they were nice. All of the staff that I spoke with were super friendly and helpful. The only downfall to the park for us was the condition of the restrooms and shower houses. They need to do a better job of cleaning them. I have stayed in state parks in several states and these were worse than any I have ever seen. Even with that, I would camp here again.

This campsite really is a hidden gem! The tent sites are spread apart and have a beautiful view. They are surrounded by trees and are close to the water. There is not much challenging hiking around, but you are about a 30 minute drive from a few trails like the Ouachita National Recreation Trail head. We really enjoyed ourselves!

I was skeptical at first having gotten this deal thru a GROUPON- but it turned out great! We stayed in cabin #10. These are not considered lake view as all cabins thru cabin are parkview, but you can get access to the water(to do fishing) by walking a short trail. What you need to know and we did not was that cabins 6-15 are duplexes. It turned out okay, but you can hear noises from the other side. The cabin provided everything you needed except your personal item of course. There was a single bedroom, sleeper sofa, table, foreplace, frdge, microwave, bathroom with a shower. They provide fresh towels everyday. There is a dollar general not too far and a Walmart in Poteau- about 12 miles away. They also have a Chilis' and a Burger King in Poteau. If you plan to fish- you do have to have a fishing license. We got a single-day license for $15. They also allow dogs for an extra fee and it was nice to bring our dogs with us.I'd sugest you bring a DVD player with movies if you plan to watch TV. Our TV did not work- they suggested that ti was due to the antenna not getting a good signal. They have a coupl of porch chairs for you to relax in with a grill in front of your canin. We use it to grill hotdogs and fish.

We stayed in a one bedroom cabin and it was enjoyable. We’re from Dallas and enjoyed the quiet and remote location. We cooked our meals although you’ll need to being groc with you. The local groc store is sparse and Walmart is almost an hour away. Don’t miss the sunset or sunrise off the dam.

The cabin was clean. Full kitchen with pots and pans. We brought our own charcoal to grill steaks one night and chicken the next. The bed was a double and was comfortable. Definitely bring your own comforter, theirs was thin on a cold night.

There’s a great Groupon every winter, two nights for $50. Score!

pretty lake, nice people...pedophile in a silver and white bus-style rv ruined it for us. we were the only campers in the park because of the flood... then right at dark this creepy dude with jacked up kids parks right next to us and runs his ac unit, and slams his bus door all night long.
Next day the ranger quizzed me about how i knew the "guy in the bus". I guess they know about him but cant get him to move on. watch your kids closely.
