The Title Presumably Refers To The Hills of The Park Area
Dec 2020
The park is 75 miles west of Oklahoma City. There is no admission fee. We went here for a hike with several friends, two dogs, and our daughter the other day. This is an area with two man-made lakes, several trails (marking of them is rather haphazard, however), and some hills and dry (this time of year) streambeds. You start out usually from the lodge area, and let me not fail to say there is the golf course over there too. The day we went there were hardly any other people around. If you do the course (circuit) south of the lakes you can have a good 2 - 4 mile walk with some relaxing scenery. We didn’t see any wildlife about and I suppose there usually isn’t any (?). Around the lodge there are a couple of tables where you can have a picnic if you bring along some items. The lodge itself has a nice balcony where you can sit and have lunch overlooking the lake. We might go back there this week. We don’t know Oklahoma well so I can’t say if this is one of the cooler places in the OK city area, or what. We did enjoy the visit. Good place for an afternoon walk. Enjoy the scenery and stay healthy!

Wonderful Weekend Away
Oct 2020
Wonderful facility, quiet at night, friendly staff, fabulous restaurant available for breakfast, lunch & dinner. Grounds are kept well, hiking trails, camp sites (including rentable teepees), general store, miniature golf, golf course, etc. Great place for a relaxing weekend. Make reservations early. Great for families and/or couples. Pet friendly.

Great time in tee pee
Sep 2020 • Solo
I rented a teepee in roman nose for 2 nights and enjoyed it all. The hiking trails were great. Fun activities for the whole family, and the park staff was very nice. The tee pee is very much like camping as it did not come with anything but a electric box, which included one outlet and one light.

Beautiful Scenery
Jul 2020 • Couples
We camped in a trailer with our back window overlooking Lake Watonga - very nice. There was some trash left on the ground around the edges of the water, but then here came a park employee who cleaned it up. We went to go swimming and found the pool closed. It is a long walk down to the pool so a sign at the parking area would have been nice.

Great Hiking and Relaxation
May 2020 • Solo
The park entrance is beautiful marked and makes for a great photo. Just inside the park you find the park office where you can golf or get a map for the park. The main hiking trails are located by the park lodge and are quite scenic. They offer great overlook of the lakes and local geography that is very pretty. You'll see cactus, streams and lots if birds. Be sure to get a map, you'll need it. On the other side if the park is a spring with a very easy trail to it that is quite nice. My main improvement is that the trails to inspiration point could be marked better or again. Overall it was wonderful, I'll go back!

A Night in the Woods
Feb 2020 • Friends
There is a wonderful primitive campsite just a short hike from the parking lot. A group of friends and I had headed out late one evening and hiked out to it at night, which unfortunately meant we weren’t able to alert the park rangers or register our vehicle. After a beautiful night out in the woods, we hiked back and were confronted by 2 rangers standing around our vehicle. Much to my surprise, they weren’t there to slap ridiculous fines on us or belittle us. They showed genuine concern for our safety, and once they understood the situation, they just let us off without any extra fines. A highly recommend this park if you want a break from the hustle and bustle of life, or a change of pace from the larger state parks that hardly allow camp fires even.

Hiking/Nature outing
Jan 2020
This was a stop on a long weekend trek through NW Oklahoma. Our overall plan was to enjoy the outdoors, hike, and see wildlife. We also planned to stay at the lodge, but due to the fact the gas leak they has been dealing with for two weeks might not be resolved, we chose to stay elsewhere. The staff was upfront and helpful. As a result, we do suggest you call directly to the lodge, general store, etc. before traveling here in the winter months. Sometimes things are closed or do not offer services touted on the web. We had planned to grad a bite to eat at the general store, but the kitchen was closed. The hiking was wonderful, but make sure you have a trail map and pay attention to the markers that are there. We suggest stopping at the lodge to get your map and asking for suggestions as to the best trails to follow. That evening, we had burgers at the lodge restaurant. They were not busy at all and we enjoyed our meal.

Reminiscing About Days Gone By
Jan 2020 • Solo
Had to reminisce about many years ago when I was a small child. Beautiful park still. On this January day, just about had the whole park to myself.

RV Camping
Oct 2019
Stayed in the Bitter Creek RV campground. Walked trails near the pavilion that passes by 2 natural springs, and also walked the mountain bike trail, which also has a spring and panoramic views from the bluff. Visited the weekend before Halloween. The lakeside RV park had a Halloween decorations contest and trick or treating. Fall is a good time to visit, as temperatures are scorching in the summer. Horse back riding is available and there is a restaurant in the lodge. Good star gazing at night.
