I recently had the opportunity to join the TFA for their Second Saturday walking tour. This outing featured a tour of the underground passageways that connects some of Tulsa’s most iconic buildings. The tour looked back to the days when Tulsa was simply a cow town, through its golden years during the oil boom, to it’s modern history. The tour guides are knowledgeable and acknowledged/included our kids throughout the tour. I recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in learning more about Tulsa and the history of some of its most iconic buildings. The only event on the tour I didn’t care for was the extended stay in an architectural firms suite, where one of the architectural firms employee gave a lengthy “commercial” for the paid services they provide to the community/globe. This stop on the tour was somewhat unnecessary due to the columns they wanted to show off in the suite could be viewed in other places in the building. The tour was full of Tulsa history and Art Deco history, a great way to spend an afternoon.

My husband and I have wanted to take the Cathedral Tour in Tulsa for sometime, and it was finally scheduled for a free Saturday. The TFFA tours are only the second Saturday of each month, and this particular tour is often in January, but they added one on June. We got early Reservations, which worked it great, along its a friend. We were able to your 4 churches, and learned about 2 others. All are almost or more than 100 yrs old and beautifully preserved and cared for. We have in the past done the Art Deco Tour and Underground Tour, which were also excellent. The guides are knowledgeable and patient. Tour groups are scheduled so they are manageable sizes, but because they can be popular, Reservations are recommended. We find the price is worth it!

Two friends and I recently went on our first Second Saturday Walking Tour sponsored by the Tulsa Foundation for Architecture. We walked just over one mile and were given information on 14 different buildings in the downtown area. This particular tour, Old is New, Downtown Tulsa Redux, concentrated on buildings which have been refurbished using Historic Tax Credits. This tour met at the Mayo Hotel and wound its way through downtown Tulsa on a beautiful Saturday morning. Tours are held the Second Saturday of every month and the price per person is $10.00. It was very entertaining and a great way to learn more about our beautiful downtown stories and buildings.
