Interesting exhibits- beautiful variety of Chihuly pieces , the best museum didactics I have ever read beside the artworks that really engage one in the story of the painting - bordering on gossip, a few edgy exhibits, and my husband’s favorite ( a sports not usually arts guy) was a photography exhibit incorporating viewers of art into photos of paintings in such a way that they “fit” in the paintings. We then had to duplicate the experience with him as the photographer and me next to the incorporated viewer. He thought that was the coolest thing ever.
Also the gift shop is wild with vast price points and an experience in itself. We were visiting from Ohio.
Definitely worth a stop.

My husband and I visited on a Friday afternoon. We did the staff-guided tour of the Painters of Pompeii exhibit, but went in a couple hours early to view the other exhibits. Museum admission was included the ticket price. The Chihuly exhibit was amazing. It’s not huge, but I kind of liked that because when we left, I didn’t feel like I missed anything. I really liked their gift shop. We spent about 1.5 hours looking at the 2nd & 3rd floors & 1 hour in the Painters of Pompeii. I would plan on 3-4 hours if you’re really into art. My husband & I only spent about 15 minutes in the post-war gallery. Definitely will visit again.

If you are a fan of Chihuly glass, this is the place for you! In the lobby is a magnificent tower of glass, 3 stories high — awesome! Other stunning exhibits on 3rd floor. We were lucky to visit during the special exhibit of the Mellon’s collection of French impressionists. Only disappointment was that the museum closed early for a special event — we were not told this when we purchased our tickets.

To my surprise, Oklahoma City is home to one of the largest collections of Chihuly glass. And most people are going to be drawn here for the Chihuly pieces. But this is also a very well rounded, yet manageable museum.

Chihuly speaks for himself. His pieces are stunning. Gorgeous. Otherworldly. Ethereal. The museum has done a great job of presenting them in such a way that the pieces are augmented by light, shadow, and reflection. Beautiful to behold and also makes for a great photo op.

They also have a cool permanent/modern art selection, diverse and intriguing. Artists from all walks of life are represented. I was glad to see black, first Americans, and others represented.

Another special exhibit they had, that I didn’t expect to enjoy as much as I did, centered on Walter Ioos’s work. Ioos (pronounced YOS like dose) has shot some of the most iconic sports images in the late 20th century, as well as the 21st century.

I was moved by Hank Aaron’s photo, accompanied by a quote saying that racism carved away a piece of his heart. Muhammad Ali as an older man, pushing his bicycle along on his secluded farm. All well organized and organized into appropriate sections: images of loss, pride, jubilance, determination, and more.

This museum also has a great little restaurant/bar and one of the better gift shops I’ve seen (including NYC). The staff is helpful. The gift shop staff were so stylish and cool!

Cheap parking close by. My ticket was just over 12 bucks.

Stellar.

We visited this on a hot summer day including the special exhibit on Pompeii. Doing all of the museum including the Chihuly glass stuff took about two hours. We have been to the Chihuly Museum in Seattle and they have a nice complement of his work in this museum. Staff was friendly, my only complaint was the cost but I always complain about that:)

We went with the sole aim to stay safe by minimizing contact and just visiting the Dale Chihuly exhibition. It is simply outstanding and memorable. A nice video feature allows you to see his process of creating these incredible glass works. The atrium glass piece and Waterford Crystal chandelier also add to the experience. Don’t miss this.

First time visitors--went for the fresco Painters of Pompeii, which was fantastic. We missed going to the museum in Naples where these are normally housed. OKC was the only place in the US where they were shown. Then we saw the post modern and post-post modern regular exhibits which were a great selection. Arrangement of some of the other exhibits was great, such as a series of portraits from many different time periods; very thoughtfully presented.

Gift shop was really nice and lunch in the cafe was lovely and tasty.

If you like Chiluly, this is a must-see. They've just restructured/reopened the Chihuly exhibit as a career retrospective of sorts, with some of his paintings as well as his glass works. And the rest of the museum is interesting as well, for instance a portrait gallery that encompasses many different eras and styles. There is also a gift shop with a nice café within it, and tables outside on a patio.

I want to talk about something that is almost never talked about. The lack of or inclusion of women artist. This art museum has done something in over 30 years of museuming I have never seen done before! In their main exhibit they had an equal number of women artists to the men artists. There was absolutely no mention of it nor was this a focus at all of the exhibit. The exhibit was amazing and for me personally much more so because of the intent to be as creative representing all artist.

This intent and curator eye for detail carries through this whole museum.

The Chihuly glass exhibition is a cut above what is shown almost anywhere else in the world. Read all the other reviews about the amazing art being shown here that represents both a large period of time in art and a range of different focus.
