Pleasant lake with nice walking trails along the river
Sep 2020 • Solo
The lake is situated at the Canadian River on the west side of OKC. It is smaller than Lake Hefner, but far prettier and more interesting to visit. There is a dam to watch and walk over. Lots of folks were fishing around the lake apparently with some success. I saw some majestic birds I think are Canadian geese. On the west side a nice children’s park called Route 66 with a nearby skate park looks fun. This is a nice park but the surrounding area on the eastern shore, once you get beyond the luxury lake homes, is not nice at all, so don’t rely on getting a bite to eat near there ( I am open to suggestions but I didn’t see anything mid scale) However, the lake and woods and trails are just so relaxing you could take leave of your worries for a while. Also, it’s free.

Nice place
Jul 2020 • Solo
Nice place to ride bike or walk. Good lake for catfish, some people who fish here are absolute pigs. They leave their bait boxes and regular trash everywhere. Lazy people.

Beautiful sunsets

The dam is really cool architecturally. This is a great place to watch the sunset or take a stroll. Love the sunsets.

Good Place to go for a run.
Mar 2018 • Family
This is a good place to take the kids or go for a run. The area is a little on the sketchy side of town so I wouldn't be out there too late.

Enjoyed
Apr 2017 • Friends
Clean kid's area with all the playground equipment, walking trail surrounding duck pond & view of the lake. Nice Pavillion area with restrooms but locked gate prevents entry. (I believe it has to be rented in advance?) There is a route 66 walking exhibit that puts the entire route at your feet. I had an enjoyable visit and will bring a picnic basket the next time.

Good sized lake with a wildlife refuge at one end and a dam at the other
Apr 2016 • Solo
I used to be in Oklahoma City on business frequently and I was always looking for scenic places to walk and take pictures. I found Lake Overholser and liked it enough to return many times. On the north end of the lake, across 39th Expwy is the Stinchcomb Wildlife Refuge. There isn't a great deal of public access to this area, but the birds in the sanctuary can often be seen around the Lake. At the south end of the lake is a large dam and lots of people enjoy fishing in the spillway. There are walking/jogging paths all the way around the lake. I once walked the entire circumference of the lake and I think it took about 2 hours at a brisk walk. There is also a large park with pavilions, BBQ grills, playground equipment and boating facilities. A great place to take the family, exercise or just watch the sunset.
