I regularly travel down to Norman to experience this museum due to the incredible works you can see. There are few places in Oklahoma where you will see Monet’s beside Van Gogh. This and a WHOLE bunch more await you. This was the first place I ever saw a war depiction painting by Norman Rockwell and it’s moving! Student art exhibits are outstanding. There are mixtures of classical art with western art and native collections. Truly a phenomenal collection right here in the middle of Oklahoma! The gallery changes every few months so each trip is a new experience.

This is located on the University of Oklahoma campus. There is metered parking in the parking garage across the street. It is a well-laid out museum that has a little bit of everything. I am the most interested in art from ancient to 1900. They have a few good pieces including a Monet, Van Gogh, and Renior. To give it the attention it deserves, you probably want to budget at least an hour and a half. The docents are very helpful if you are looking for a particular area. It is meant to be a museum for adults so it is inadvisable to bring anyone under 10 or so. They will likely be quite bored.

For a University museum, this is very good indeed. I wasn't really expecting too much, but my drive passed Norman, and so put this on the itinerary. Needed food, and there's a nice little commercial are nearby where you can tell students and locals go with wide variety of eateries, etc. Museum itself has some impressive works - beyond what you'd expect in a very local collection - prime benefactor had major dollars. Some of the art is displayed in recreated period rooms where it might have once hung, which gives it an intimate and interesting feel. There is a fair amount of contemporary art on view as well and the viewing space itself on the second floor is worth contemplating. Photography exhibit on 3rd not so interesting, but you've been satiated by then, so no foul. Quite worth spending a couple of hours, and if it hadn't been 95 degrees, I might have wandered the campus too. I choose free street parking; an easy walk through a small sculpture garden brings you to the front door. Oh yes, it's FREE - which is well nigh unbelievable for what you get to see.

My wife and I enjoyed seeing the works of art done by the masters we learned about in school. On top of that there is a variety of newer works that highlight the diversity of our world. You don’t have to be an expert on art to enjoy this museum. Since entry is free you can come back over and over to enjoy the works of art

We are truly blessed to have this high-quality museum in Norman. It is FILLED with art from around the world including from the Masters. It's also fun to attend the display of art from OU Seniors displayed in May of every year. So much talent on campus!

The University of Oklahoma deserves recognition for its football team but even more for its art Museum, the Fred Jones JR. Museum of art which offers free admission to everyone. Its strengths :permanent collections displaying not only amazing traditional and contemporary Native American Art ard, best of all,an incredible collection of French Impressionism featuring Renoir, Van Gogh Monet, Gauguin, nestled in an elegant interior, modeled after the donors' house,, the Weitzenhoffer family. Guaranteed : two hours of pure enchantment before or after the football game!

The exhibits and manner of display are first-rate, but museum guards move with the viewer of the art, always observing them as they move from gallery to gallery. We came here less than a month after spending five weeks in Pairs and Amsterdam, enjoying the museums there. I was saddened by the manner that security at Fred Jones Jr. Museum of Art employed against its guests. That policy of security changed what could have been an enjoyable time of looking at the great art that is there, into an uncomfortable experience that I will not repeat.

How long should we allow to spend in the Art Museum?

Hard question, people vary in their speed and many need to read the information by the work. I would suggest two hours and take some breaks to rest. It's a fine museum, especially good in its collection of southwestern art.
