- The WifeDenton, Texas166 contributionsEscape the Park (But like I don't want to because I love this park so much)They have a new Escape Park that is literally incredible. I would expect to find something of this quality in a big city, not a place with a very small population. We chose Alice in Wonderland Escape room and it was truly a wonderland, we loved it so much and are looking forward to trying another room!Visited October 2023Traveled with familyWritten October 1, 2023

- edhodgeFayetteville, Arkansas23 contributionsService and food were both outstanding. We were seated on the deck, overlooking the river. We were in the shade with a nice breeze, which was key in this hot July day. Brittany, our server was fantastic! Food was delicious and the servings were huge! Brittany did a top notch job of keeping our drinks filled, checking on us at the perfect times. This lady is to be commended!Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 31, 2024

Cabin our Family rented was beautiful, Loved it! Comfortable! Was in a residential area, not good! They only allow four vehicles on cabin sites. Even if we weren't blocking anyones entry or exit! There were a handle full of friendly folks did not feel "Welcomed" at all. Had lunch down town Medicine Park, bunch of frowns. You say hello to anyone they give you dirty looks. The guy at the rental location where you picked up keys was nice but his women assistant was not. This is not a Family friendly area its more of a keep quit and to your self type of atmosphere. Had another cabin booked for August will cancel, we are taking our money where we can actually enjoy our time....where we feel Welcomed! Do not recommend for Family get togethers

We'll often stop by Medicine Park on our way to the Wichita Wildlife Refuge (just up the road). It's a cute little town with historic rock buildings. There are a handful of restaurants, most with a form of outdoor dining. There are also some shops too. When we were there a week ago they had a lot of construction going on and were working to renovate the historic buildings and homes. I think with the right planning and attention to detail they could really make this place a destination and much like the adorable town on the outskirts of a national park, like Estes Park. I would recommend them putting in more sidewalks along main street as there were a few times you had to walk along the road.

Wonderful walkable town perfect for a long weekend. We really enjoyed staying in the Creekside cabin through Airbnb. The wildlife refuge is a very short drive away. Cute shops, stands and cafes. We especially enjoyed dining at The Plantation Restaurant and those fried green tomatoes! The Tacos at Small Mountan Street Tacos are also worth a mention. The other eateries were average.
Found some great gifts at Comanche Shirt Company and The White Buffalo shop.
The weather shifts were pretty drastic in mid March. We saw lows in the teens our first night, some snow on day one and low 60’s on day two. Still a wonderful long weekend.

Cool town for a day trip. Nice views of the stream from the cafe and the pub, though the pub is run down and smells like mildew or stale cigarette smoke (which won't bother you if your outside). The creek makes the town worth visiting.

We really enjoyed driving around and seeing the beautiful lakes and mountains. Wild life? We did see a buffalo, long horn cows and a lizard. But a fun time during the pandemic when you have to keep away from people

This town is not worth your time and money. The Town of Medicine Park has annexed SH-49 (and unfortunate businesses adjacent to I-44) miles from edge of the town's population center. They then abruptly drop the speed limit from 65 MPH to 45 MPH, and exact their toll (starting at $166) from unsuspecting tourists. If this is the way they treat people traveling to and from their town, imagine how they treat people who stay there.
The Wildlife Refuge is really nice, but don't take SH49 to get there. Save your money and take SH-115 instead; you'll thank me later.

This is not the sleepy little Medicine Park that many might remember from the 70s-early 90s. This is a loud, center of activity. When I say loud...I mean loud. I would advise staying anywhere near the main street. Bars/Restaurants are open until around midnight. If you do don't plan on getting any sleep before that time. Motorcycles with loud music and same coming from the bars until around midnight. I saw many families there which seems like a good day trip but don't think you would want little ones around in the evening. Probably great for partying adults.
The Old Plantations Restaurant is also not what you will remember. It has been redone completely and other than the exterior of the building and the name it has no similarities. The down-home welcome of Grandpa and Grandma are not there anymore and those enormous dinner rolls with the burnt bottoms have been replaced by smaller ones that have the appearance of being mass produced.
The nearby Wichita Mountains are your sanctuary from this crazy town!

The views are amazing as well as the history of the area. We saw bison and prairie dogs on the Wichita Mountain Wildlife Refuge. This quaint town with cobblestone houses is fairly busy on the weekends, but be prepared: the shops are not open Monday through Wednesday. It was a great little getaway. We had our teenagers and 6 and 8 year- old granddaughters with us. They all had fun. Don't miss driving to the peak of Mt. Scott. It was hard to believe we were in Oklahoma with the gorgeous mountain views. We would definitely like to go back and maybe do some fishing. Lots of lakes in the area.

We love the beauty of the area. We expected a crowd due to the music festival which was great! The crowd, however, ruined our experience. I get it that it was a free event but the heavy cloud of marijuana hanging over the venue and the drunk and rowdy crowd made it unbearable for a family event. It would have been nice for security to help with crowd control. Unfortunately we most likely won’t return.

Staff is very rude and food too expensive for what you get. In the middle of our meal staff told us we couldn’t sit in an area because we had a 5 year old with us. There was no bar near us. Instead he wanted to move us to a wet table nearer to the actual bar. Ruined our experience. Unfortunate.

Where did you drive to see the buffalo and prairie dogs at Medicine Park, Oklahoma?
Written May 1, 2018
The best answer to your question is "Where WOULD'T you see buffalo or prairie dogs?" You will see them all over. The longhorns are more prevalent, but the buffalo are there. If you continue on the road through the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge, you will come to Prairie Dog town. There's a sign so you won't miss it. Get out of your car, obey the rules, and enjoy. Hope this helps.
