A MUST if you’re in the area!
My husband and I rented a cabin in Broken Bow for our 20th anniversary and as an animal lover the first thing I wanted to do after we arrived was go to the Hochatown Petting Zoo, my husband was a little skeptical because we have our own little “petting zoo” at home (dogs, cats, ferrets, a mini pig, chickens, and a rabbit). When we walked in the door almost first thing a sweet little Mastiff puppy tried to run past us and out the door, my husband scooped her up and was instantly in love! We bought our tickets and a bucket of feed for the outside animals and honestly I was surprised how cheap it was to get to experience all of the amazing animals in such a hands on environment. As we were paying I noticed the sweet Cockatoo Sydney and started talking to him and giving him cheek scratches. As we walked into the next room the first thing I saw was the chubbiest, cutest Raccoon ever! I got to open her cage and give her tummy rubs and I’m pretty sure she would have been content for me to sit by her all day and love on her! Then I saw my dream pet, a skunk. I have wanted one forever and she just helped me make up my mind that eventually I will either adopt a rescue or find a reputable breeder. There was a crazy little squirrel running around that was the funniest little guy to watch. We spent probably at least 45 minutes inside loving on all of the animals in there and looking at the ones that we couldn’t/or preferred not to touch. Ferrets, bunnies, guinea pigs, potbelly piglets, squirrels, chinchillas, and so many more animals inside it was so fun to see all of them so up close. Outside was just as amazing! My husband really enjoyed the deer and spent quite a while petting and feeding them. There were chickens, goats, donkeys, calves, and horses wherever you looked. But my favorites outside were the prairie dogs (we’ve had them as pets in the past and they’re amazing and have the cutest little personalities) and the Coatimundis! They were a couple of foxes that were absolutely beautiful. It would definitely take more than one day to go through and truly appreciate each animal, the hard work, and the love that you can tell the staff has for each of these animals. We met the owner Tammy and it is immediately evident that she puts her heart and soul into all of the animals wether they’re rescues that will be released back into the wild after they’ve been rehabilitated or if the petting zoo is their forever home. My husband and I have told everyone how amazing our trip to the petting zoo was and we’re already planning a return trip in April. It’s a magical place that anyone of any age can have the most amazing experience!

Up there with the best of experiences
I can’t say enough good things about this place! We were hoping we were going on a less crowded day so we could spend more time with the animals. It turned out that three people didn’t show for work and everyone in the area decided that was the day to go to the petting zoo. So it was busy and they were understaffed. But even that didn’t hinder our great experience. They have great and some unusual animals. Some in cages you had to ask if you could pet them but they we’re happy to let you and tell you about their animals. Super fun and a must visit place if you love animals and/or have children with you.

    Great for Families
This experience was absolutely amazing! We read reviews before going and were very skeptical. We did a tour with Jay and she explained and helped with any and all things our children wanted to do. She wasn’t pushy if our kids didn’t want to do something and it didn’t just feel like she was trying to rush us out of there. They give you a half pitcher filled to the top with feed and it was plenty for the whole entire rescue! VERY VERY hands on. We went with a 9 month old, 2 year old and a 3 year old and they all had so much fun and we’re hands on with way more than we expected! 10/10 would recommend!

First time coming here. We purchased 4 adult tickets at $9 a piece plus $6 for a feed bucket. The girl at the front counter failed to tell us there were 2 school groups ahead of us...

The barn yard section animals smelled like they hadn’t been cleaned today, and looked it. The baby alpaca was biting people.

The room past the front desk that allows you to see and actually hold animals is marked at 10 people, waaay more than 10 people packed in when we got here.

We waited for 45 minutes, the second school group was in there... the staff couldn’t commit to how long it would take or if we could step outside to wait until they were finished. They brought a baby possum into front area to attempt to appease everyone waiting but it was too little too late and only compressed groups of people into an even smaller area.

Frankly if we hadn’t already fed the farm animals while waiting I would have asked for a refund. If this is how it is on a week day morning, I’d hate to see a weekend...

The worst most upsetting "zoo" soo called rescue I have ever seen. Anyone who truly loves animals would be devastated at how these animals are over fed, housed poorly and not properly taken care of. All animals inside are in 2 small rooms, snakes right next to guinea pigs, nocturnal animals unable to sleep, racoon so fat her feet won't touch the ground. Pigs so overfed they need their eyelids cut, and won't even get up to eat because mounds of food are just sat in front of them. The smell was horrid and not farm bad, it was not cleaned gross. I'm from the country and know animal smell as opposed to just not cleaning properly. They even had candles burning everywhere.

The zoo had a lot of rescue animals; it would have been nice to see staff out and about with the animals. I feel it could have been cleaner for the animals than it was. I don't mind the price as it goes toward the rescue animals. The camel was a little aggressive however, it was only a baby, again needs more staff to attend animals

They have different animals, my favorite was the kangaroo but it just doesn't look up to par especially for the price its $12 for adults $9 for kids an $2 charge if you use credit card. It smells an looks horrible. Feel bad for some of the animals they look miserable.

I had thought it was just a roadside small attraction but there was a huge amount of variety of animals at this petting zoo. Protip - wear shoes as there are numerous areas where the deer and goats have gone to the bathroom, as well as muddy spots. The staff and animals were all friendly except for one alpaca which looked like it wanted to fight, a bully goat who, well, bullied other animals, and ostriches who are just natural SOBs. Well worth the visit!

Horrible place the animals are in such bad shape and there living conditions are so bad. It's 92 degrees outside and hardly any water in any of the cages the deer looked like they was about to have a heat stroke. Way too many animals in one pen. It was very nasty inside and outside these people should be ashamed of even having people come in and see these pour animals this place should be shut down. As much as they charge they need to put that money back into these animals

Very fun and cost-effective entertainment for groups with kiddos. I recommend you go early in the morning or later in the evening as the animals tend to rest in the heat of the day. Great place with great staff!!!

ANIMALS
Mainly farm animals with a few exotics in stinky cages. They actually have scented candles everywhere. One cage had what looked like dogs inside. Yep... puppies “that need a home.”

SERVICE
Arrived early and went in at 9:59 and asked “Are you open?” A very unpleasant worker said “we open at exactly 10:00.” Right behind me came a couple who said “2 tickets please” and she helped them. It was still 9:59. When they left she didn’t say anything to me. Ugh.

Our family group consisted of 7 adults with 5 children between infant to 6. We all enjoyed this petting zoo. The kangaroo was a hoot and a little feisty. The staff is very friendly and stay with you to guide through the animals. Some animals are in fences and some roam free. It was a really fun experience.

This isn’t just a petting zoo; it’s an animal rescue. It’s fun to see all the animals and feed them. Plan to spend at least a couple of hours!
Check their Facebook page for donation needs before you go- they always need things for the animals!
