Eldean Bridge was built in 1860. Eldean is one of only two covered bridges remaining in the in Miami County and is the longest "Longest Truss" covered bridge in the nation. Visitors can still cross through the protected barriers of this historic landmark, on foot, bicycle or by car. 6 years ago the Eldean Covered Bridge was designated a National Historic Landmark.

The Eldean Covered Bridge is a historic covered bridge spanning the Great Miami River in Miami County, Ohio north of Troy. Built in 1860, it is one of the nation's finest surviving examples of a Long truss, patented in 1830 by engineer Stephen H. Long. At 224 feet (68 m) in length for its two spans, it is the longest surviving example of its type.
It is located in a park with a picnic shelter🅿️🚾♿️

We live close to here and I pass it everyday on my way to and from work. No matter the season or weather - sun, rain or snow - the pretty red wooden bridge stands out against its background. In between a field and a park, I can’t decide if I like it best in the fall when the leaves are changing or surrounded by the white cold snow.

My niece and nephew, 5 and 7 now, ask to be driven through it every time they come visit.... and we do! Slowly, with the windows rolled down so you can hear your tires bump over each slab of wood and the water bubbling underneath. We love this little covered bridge.

If you are in the area, especially, if you are into old covered bridges, by all means check it out. Better yet, see it from a canoe in the river. It is not, otherwise, a destination in itself.

I lived in Piqua, OH when a graduated HS and the covered bridge was a local hang out. I moved away around 17 years ago and still come back to visit family. On this trip I have had time to get out and explore the area again. The bridge is just as good if not better than I remembered it! The bridge is clean and the inside is not full of graffiti as it has been in the past. I hope it stays this way!

My husband kept telling me about this place, and I honestly thought it was not all that exciting. However, I have to say that I was really impressed with the restoration. I really enjoyed our visit. It was neat to see such a great preservation. If you are in town, it is well worth the visit!

This bridge is now recognized as a national historical site. The county/state has moved the road to bypass the bridge so that the bridge is now located in a park setting,
You can drive (slowly) through the bridge or you can park your vehicle in the park and walk through the bridge. Not exciting for most kids but they talk about it afterwards for quite a while

Very quick stop to see a really historic bridge! Our sons enjoyed driving over it and we read the placard to them. Take the two minutes to see it and get back on the road!

If you like cool, old covered bridges, check this one out. You are still able to drive through this bridge, roll the windows down and hear the nifty “thunk-thunk” sound exclusive to driving over wooden bridges.
