BEST ZOO FROM NEW YORK TO OHIO
Jun 2021
This was the best zoo on my trip: nearly complete animal exhibits; mostly flat walking; very good aquarium, and, to top it off; easy and free parking. I managed to get a spot right near the entrance. This zoo caters to all ages.

COVID and workforce issues are taking it’s s toll
Jul 2021 • Family
Let me start by saying I LOVE THE TOLEDO ZOO. It’s one of the best zoo’s in the country. So much to do and see. Like so many other establishments, TZ took a huge financial hit during the COVID shut down and can’t find qualified employees to bounce back. Our visit yesterday was not anywhere near the standard we are used to from the Toledo Zoo. Food service was terrible. Employees with total disregard for their positions. Texting rather than preparing food, confused and disorganized. Lines were long and prices are high even for a zoo. The grounds are a mess. Once held to a Disney standard weeds and overgrown shrubbery were everywhere. I can only assume it’s due to a lack of staff. Lots of exhibits are still closed as well. Hopefully things will turn around for next year. If you’re considering an out of town visit I would highly recommend waiting. It just wasn’t what it usually is.

Disappointed
Jul 2021 • Family
Took my sons here as a small day trip which was a 2 1/2 hour drive and was very disappointed in how many animal exhibits were unoccupied or no animals could be seen in some that even were open! Lots of the food places and vendors were closed which was disappointing. Took the ride on the train and we had to skip half the route because there were no animals. Literally saw all the animals from where we were standing so no need for the train. Just an overall disappointing trip except for time with my sons.

Rhino Experience
Jun 2021 • Family
We did the behind the scenes rhino experience and it was worth the extra money. Aashish is like a big puppy.! Mike the trainer was very knowledgeable and made it a fun experience. The zoo had two three-month old tigers as well that were fun to watch. Overall, it was a great day. The gift shop was still closed but the other exhibits were all open.

My Day At The Zoo
Jun 2021
The zoo has become overly commercial. Due to covid no drinking fountains or any other free source of water available, only $4.00 for a 12oz. bottle of water. This is not acceptable. If you want to see giraffes up close that will be $5.00, if you want to see big cats, your in the wrong place, The large cat building is now a cafe. It is expensive to park, and expensive to enter. I was once a member and this will not happen again. As far as the other exhibits, very nice, I just don't like trying to suck the last cent out of the customer.

Well designed zoo. Good family fun
May 2021 • Family
This is a well designed zoo. Plenty of animals to see and several of the exhibits are rather close (in distance) to the public.

We paid for the Behind the Scenes Pingüin Tour. It’s a half hour experience: you enter thru a side door and see the kitchen where the fish/vitamins are prepared. Then you go up the stairs to a rather small area where the penguins can come over. About half of the penguins available will be there. You get very close to them but cannot touch not feed them. Plenty of opportunities to ask questions and to see them swim and eat. All in all: a unique experience with a $269 cost for 6 people ( includes Park entrance).

Some exhibits are rather small for the size of the animals. Others are pretty good, particularly the aquarium exhibits.

Food concessions are available throughout the park, but not all stands are open. Due to Covid the zoo store is closed but they ended up making an informal open door store available. Unfortunately that’s the same location where wheelchairs and scooters are rented, so the queue was rather long.

It must have been a bad day.
May 2021
It cost $8.00 to park. It is an AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) member meaning that if you re a member of any AZA affiliate, you get 1/2 price admission. When I visited, tickets were not sold at the "Tickets" windows, but rather at the "Welcome" windows. Stupid me for not figuring that one out on my own, There is a gift shop which was closed, but there was an outdoor auxiliary just inside the entrance. It is not a particularly large zoo and is relatively flat with well paved paths. Signage is poor. My visit was on a pleasant morning and let me list all the animal I saw: grey wolf. To say the least, this was a very disappointing trip. COVID-19: Employees were masked. Not more than 10% of the visitors were properly masked and social distancing protocols were completely ignored.

Nice zoo
May 2021 • Couples
This zoo is a good size. The animals are all spread out. There is also garden areas throughout the zoo. Because of covid a lot of the places to eat in the zoo are closed.

Had a great visit on a Monday
Apr 2021 • Family
My husband, myself and our 3-year-old visited the zoo today 4/12, which I was hesitant to do because of 1) recent reviews and 2) the limited admission hours for the zoo on Mondays. Also, it was somewhat overcast and was even raining a little when we arrived around 11:00. We ended up having a really great visit, there were animals visible from outside in most of the exhibits and several were really active; we had a fantastic time observing the gorillas, they were spectacular. Our family has no problem wearing masks and most other visitors also wore masks all the time, outside as well in buildings that were open, it was not a big deal and is posted clearly everywhere. I suppose if masking is an issue for you, you might not have a good time. Also, the zoo was not crowded in the 3 hours of our visit. Perhaps other reviewers went on a busy weekend? We did not encounter rude staff. We did not have lines except for a short one while we waited for a pretzel. There were limited places for food but I expected that because the zoos website indicated limited food options. Several things were not as accessible, or areas were closed off, or certain things were not happening on a Monday that are probably available on weekends or prior to COVID. None of that bothered our 3-year-old or us. I think the only things that could be better were adjustments that had been made due to the pandemic, otherwise it was excellent.

Terrible Staffing/Animals Great
Apr 2021
We went this past weekend on Saturday, 4/10. I don't believe they are staying at their 50% capacity. They also really only had two food stations available, but let you're not aloud to take in your own drinks/food. We also brought our refillable cup and come to find out, after standing in line for 30 minutes, the only station that does the refill was the one at the front of the park. They need to place more workers at the concession stands vs the outside exhibits making sure no more then 10 people at a time, HELLO THEY ARE OUTSIDE EXHIBITS! Some of the staff were extremely rude to our group, made us stand in line forever just to tell us we can't go in b/c our whole group doesn't have mask. Remind you some of us were medically exempts for mask wearing! We are usually yearly members but I don't think we will be renewing this coming year.
