I phoned and spoke with a lady earlier this week who I believe is in the director's office at the OVH, which I was prompted to do by the automated voice when I called to talk to someone at the museum on a day they are not open.

I have talked to her twice over the past few weeks, and I told her that I wanted to come to the Museum/Library there today and she has my phone number. I drove over two hours one way today just to learn that the volunteers didn't show up today to open up the museum and apparently no one else there can open it up either. They have limited hours as it is. Two other patrons were there hoping to visit the museum as well and so well all wasted our time going there. I would recommend pushing to get contact info for those who volunteer there so you can verify that they indeed will be coming in to open up the museum the day you plan to visit, or you could end up wasting your time as well.

Nice to drive around the campus and see the artifacts in the museum, especially around Memorial Day.

Located in the beautiful old Mack Bldg.of the Ohio Veterans Home complex which is situated on a nicely landscaped multi-acre parcel of land conveniently located on U.S Rt. 250 North, this collection of artifacts is worth the trip! However, due to the limited hours because it is manned by older veteran volunteers, it is a good idea to call first to make sure it will be open at the time of your visit... I would even call that morning to be sure. The grounds of the Home is also a nice place to walk and perhaps you will get lucky and hear the beautiful sounds of the large church type bell that rings out I believe every 1/2 hour or hour. There is a tiny elevator in the back of the building for wheelchairs...one at a time though but it is available.

So much information and artifacts from various wars, including the Spanish American War, Civil War, WWI & II, Korean War, Vietnam War, and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Went there specifically to see the Johnson's Island display from the Civil War era. Very helpful guide with a lot of knowledge. Worth the visit. Keep in mind, though, they have limited hours. Closed on Mon. & Tues. Open afternoons only Weds-Sun.
