I bought my mom a racing experience in January for her birthday. On her original date to ride she ended up in the hospital (copd exacerbation and almost on a ventilator) She has extensive skin cancer, end stage copd, is 75 pounds and is disabled (3 back surgeries, 2 neck surgeries) Needless to say she is not in good health. My reason for explaining all of this is this racing experience was on her bucket list. She is on oxygen 100% of the time so I was scared to do this but I could not have asked for a better experience. When we were forced to cancel this company allowed us to do so (with a doctors note) for no charge. Then race day (or our make up day) finally came. She wore her oxygen in the car but wouldnt take it outside in fear someone would see it and not let her ride. I told Kevin, the owner, her situation and he was fantastic. His crew explained in detail instructions over and over....and over until she got it. They helped her in the car and explained again. They made sure once her helmet was on she quickly was able to ride. Kevin then followed her out to the track and hung out in the middle to keep an eye on her. After her ride Kevin immediately went to her car and helped her out, never ever rushing her. I then overheard him tell her she was his favorite customer (very sweet!) After learning she didnt get her picture not only did they let her choose any car to get a picture with (even though they were packing up to leave as we were the last round of people for the day) but he had someone run and get the checkered flag to make the picture even more special. Again, never rushing her! Then the girls there went through to find the pics needed to set up the "picture plaque" we bought. And as if the crew and Kevins patience and thoughtfulness wasnt enough they even gave her a baseball hat! I bought my mom this racing experience because she truly wanted to do it before she died but I could never have done it without the people that were there! Their patience and kindness made this experience better than we could have imagined. My mom had a great time....she was so happy in fact that she was in tears as we pulled out...happy tears of course!! The people who work for Kevin should be proud to be a part of this group. Thank you Kevin and Thank you Sandusky Speedway. You have a huge thumbs up from me!

Got this for my dad for his birthday. We arrived about 45 minutes early for his appointment but they let us right in. He went straight over to the dressing area and got a fireproof suit and helmet. He did the side by side 5 lap ride along. They actually did about 8 laps. When we went to check his video card that we purchased, it hadn't recorded so they offered us money back or another ride to get a video. He chose another ride, he loved it. Everyone was very nice and helpful. Definitely recommend.

Surprised my boyfriend with a real Nascar driving experience.I got his ticket on Groupon for half price. There are 2 options available, the self drive and the ride along. I chose the ride along because he tends to drive slow on the road and didn't think he would get the maximum thrill unless someone else was driving. Appointments are necessary. Ours was @ 11:30 but didn't actually get into the car until about 45 minutes later. Watching the people's expressions as they exited the cars made the time go by quickly. Full fireproof suits and helmets were a must as they made sure the seatbelts were securely fastened. Be aware there are weight and girth limits. One gentleman waited 6 months to take the experience and almost had to for fit because they couldn't get the seat belt to lock. He was embarrassed and devastated. After 15 minutes of working with it they finally got it to latch. The ride along was for 3 laps, but my boyfriend said it seemed more like 4 or 5. He commented as he exited the car "awesum, I can't catch my breath, just awesum". He would recommend this to everyone. More laps can be added for a charge. The self drive does have an additional option of "vehicle insurance" that can be purchased before the ride. Probably a good idea as one self drive person hit the guardrail while we were there. They do take a picture as you enter the car all in gear and make a nice wood plaque up before you leave that has 2 pictures on it and the Sandusky Speedway for a bit pricey fee. Absolutely a must for the want-a-be Nascar lover or anyone that has a need for speed!

I received the 15 lap experience as a gift. Before going, I upgraded to 20 and added the 5 lap ride-along... both upgrades are highly recommended! The ride-along gives you the opportunity to feel how the car responds a bit on-track, and to really observe how to drive the racing line. Be sure to take advantage of the many deals available online i.e. Groupon. These "special" prices make the experience well worth the dollars. If you plan to drive fast and push yourself, for piece of mind, I felt the insurance option was well worth it, too!

Every Saturday night - they are racing here - off of PERKINS Avenue - the locals always put on a great show - some weekends there are not that many cars - as its all local budgets - so if you want WRECK and ACTION - its a great place to come......some main events on the major holidays (Memorial Day/July4th/etc) where they bring in SUPER MODIFIEDS and MIDGETS - get a good crowd going - SUPER LOUD - so bring headphones for the kids - and there is some cheap food (burgers/hot dogs/fries offered under the grandstand.......The main grandstand is old and rickity but its why most folks come - so bring something to sit on.....if you are lucky enuf during the week - sometimes the THOR SPORT NASCAR trucks are testing here - that facility is right around the corner........

I was looking for something new exciting and different to get my fiancee for fathers day. We have two children and one on the way so it is easy to get stuck in a rut-I was looking on groupon and found a discount for the Rusty Wallace Experience Sandusky and knew this was the perfect gift!! I purchased the 5 lap package but a few days later I added 5 more laps for a total of 10 laps. The website gives you the option to purchase additional laps, insurance, and photo and video packages. You get a email confirmation and a reminder email a few days before your experience. I was unable to get him a racing appointment right away-the first available was a month later which was ok. There are two packages a rider experience and a driver experience-I got him the driver experience because I knew he would love to drive the racecar himself! Race day finally came and he had so much fun and wants to go back. He got a picture of him in full suit with the car and also got a "in car video" which shows him driving and the road. Both are about $60 each. Overall it was a great experience just a bit costly. I am sure he will be going back for more laps soon!! Great experience.

Sandusky speedway is a great place to see racing up close. the bleachers are very old and the wood is kinda scary. bring a pad for your seat. parking can get messy if it has rained recently.

The track itself is a half mile paved oval and is fun to drive in a late model.

highly recommend hearing protection. porta potties are hot and stinky and concession stand is scary for that complete small town racetrack experience.

The place itself is fun and all. But the owners and other employees are VERY unprofessional! Very nasty people if they think one wrong thing about you. I have screen shots of them threatening to beat up my husband and I even had to get the police involved.

My sister and I bought the 10-lap experience on Groupon for our husbands. They ended up having a great time but were pretty nervous at first... The first hour is a meeting with the owner explaining the rules, how to drive, etc. He really stressed the need to buy the insurance for $60. If you don't and you crash, it's gonna cost you $15,000 that you have to come up with before they'll let you leave. Who can do that?! My brother in law was pretty spooked by it, so he bought it. My husband refused. Fortunately, he was very cautious on the track! Altho I watched the drivers for awhile, and no one was ever close to having an accident. And my husband asked someone and the only thing that's happened so far this year was a spinout with no damage. Chances are, you're not going to need the insurance. It's a short track, so you never go over 80, and even that is pushing it for a beginner. They were in full on racing attire, with helmet and headset. They looked very official! They were just starting to get the hang of it when their 10 laps were up and wished they could have gone longer. My husband's only complaint was, he felt like the owner had told them how to handle the car one way, and the man actually overseeing the driving and talking thru the headset was telling him something different. Overall they had a great time and are enjoying the bragging rights of driving their own race car. I think they'd do it again. Another couple was watching with us, and he was really jealous he wasn't doing it! It did look like fun. I'd really like to ride with one of the pros! They were impressive to watch.
