WORST PLACE ever for food allergies

By far the WORST place for anyone with food allergies!!! DO NOT EXPECT anyone to accommodate food allergies and If you do ask expect for them to threaten to call security. Our daughter has food allergies and they refused to accommodate without a high price. DO NOT COME HERE if you have any kind of food allergies OR be prepared to bring all your own food despite their rules not to.

Would not stay again

I have stayed at this location several several times. I will not be returning. To make our issues short…the rooms are filthy (moved rooms once and no better), air conditioning issues, hair in outside pool, only one hot tub, cold food when delivered to our table, no towels, hair in refrigerator.

We visited as part of a family reunion at the end of July. Was disappointed in the lack of masking in the arcade and indoor hotel portions of the resort given the current COVID situation. That being said, I had clarified with the staff that if we wanted to wear masks in line at the waterpark we could use waterproof phone holders to keep the masks dry when we were going down the slide (we ended up not needing to doing this as we mostly did the outside rides). Understandably, you cannot wear masks during the ride.

Be aware that while they say you can check in by noon to go to the waterpark, YOUR ROOM WILL NOT BE READY UNTL AFTER 4pm. Conveniently, they have very expensive lockers in the waterpark area to store your belongings until your room is ready if you want to use the waterpark before your room is ready. I think it would be nice if Kalahari would provide these free or at least discounted to people arriving earlier than when the room is ready.

Our room was okay, beds were clean, there was a little mold near the windows/AC, but I think that's to be expected at a waterpark. The decor was African safari themed and there is a photo of a large gorilla staring at you from one wall that was a little creepy. Unfortunately, our room did have multiple issues. Bathroom ventilation didn't work (maintenance did come by right after we checked in saying the previous people in the room had complained and that they was unable to fix it - so why put us in the room in the first place if they were already aware of the issue?).

The room keys are incorporated into the wristband that you are given at check-in - which would normally be convenient, but this was an issue when upon returning from the waterpark, we were left freezing in the hallway when the keylock mechanism ran out of batteries, which necessitated a long walk all the way back to the front desk to notify them of the issue and then an additional wait for maintenance and then security to finally unlock the door (took about 45 minutes for us to get in and then we had to wait another 30 minutes for them to come back and fix the door). We also had trouble with our son's bands working to open the hotel room door and getting into the waterpark.

Hallways were pretty clean but the stairwells were dirty and didn't look like they were cleaned often. I think we stepped around the same pile of crushed cheetos in one of the stairwells for our entire 2-night stay.

I would say security is pretty lax too. We saw one group use one admission band and keep passing it back to others in the family to use to get in through the turnstiles.

Also, if you are planning to go to the waterpark right when it opens, be aware that not all of the rides are open at the start of the day, so there are still lines as only a couple of the rides are available until later in the day.

Also, the website advertises certain rides, but when you get to the waterpark, none of the employees can tell you where it is or if it is open (we ran into this issue with StormChaser). Also, be aware that for the Flowrider, you have to attend a mandatory safety lecture, but this is only offered a couple of times (I think before the park opens or at the end of the day), so if you miss it, you will have to wait until the next day.

Overall, most of the employees we met were great (especially Katie who was answering the help desk line and went out of her way to assist me) and it was nice to get out of the house for a family trip, but given that we live about 5 hours away, I think we could have had a similar experience at the waterparks much closer to our house

Family trip and the kids had a great time. Check in process was too long but the slides were fun and the room was clean. No coffee makers in room which could be a real plus for parents! Want to give a shout out to Erdis in house-keeping. BY FAR the most friendly staff member and he went out of his way to help us. Give this guy a raise...he goes above and beyond! Went to Sortinos for dinner and although overpriced, was a nice change from the business of the rest of the resort.

Think twice before booking your trip

Terrible experience! Shower was cold no hot water. We went to the water park outside and there was a guy going t9 jump from the balcony ! He was there for about 5 hours. This was not handle right. Kids do not need to see this. When going into the lazy River we had a man ream my daughter more then one time. The life guards just stood there did nothing. When asked what she was going to do about it she said not my problem. This guy did not even have a Kalahari wrist band on. This whole situation could of been taken care of if the life guards would of been doing their jobs instead of flirting with her guy friend who was also a lifeguard. Overall this was not a good experience and I will not be coming back. These things could of been handled differently by staff.

we got 4 room which check in time was at 4pm but we did not get in our room till 7pm we were all to be next to each other but we were all in different areas and different floors, the filters in the air condition was FULL of dust and mold, the tv did not work the remoted had duck tape holding the battery in place, and the phone did not work. we ask to talk to the manager that night the next day we talk to a different manager but nothing was done. we will not be back and i will be calling the health department

Probably won’t be back after multiple visits

This will have been our 4th time here, and 1st post COVID and I don’t think we will be back sadly. We purchased a total of two rooms, one for 5 days and one for 3. Once checked in, heading to the first room we realized they got the room wrong by giving us a standard queen when we purchased an upgrade. After having to hike back down stairs and wait in line they resolved their mistake by giving us a whole extra hour at the parks… Later in the day we got confirmation our second room was available which was a kitchen suite. When arriving everything seemed to be fine until we went into the bathroom to find a HUGE black mold spot on the ceiling which seems to have been there for a while. When I texted the concierge their response was “ I’m so sorry, we will get housekeeping up right away!”…… I’m pretty sure you have to clean the room with more than just what housekeeping has to offer when you have that stuff. We ended up hoofing it back down to the front desk and showing them pictures. Their solution… downgrading is to a double queen room and giving us the difference back on my card. At this point… im furious. Not only do I not get a room I requested but they aren’t going above and beyond to make sure im satisfied. After thinking this was the end of it… I was mistaken. We spent 1800 on cabanas for the week and unfortunately the cabana hostesses were no where to be found. After calling 6-7 times on the cell phone and caban phone, we ended up just getting our drinks and food ourselves. Once finally getting her attention around dinner time ( mind you we have been there since 10am) she takes off with our card to open a tab and doesn’t come back…. Until I text her telling her I needed it as we were leaving! Her response “Oh… sorry I forgot..” Conclusion: Kalahari seems to be just about the money now.. the rooms are dated and dusty, the hallways look like they haven’t been vacuumed in months and the staff truly doesn’t seem to care that your dropping THOUSANDS on a vacation.

Got a chance to come back after missing last year because of the da* "Rona". Still a great resort! Room check-in was a breeze, and room was ready and waiting and CLEAN! All staff were UBER friendly and helpful. New restaurants were interesting. Resort amenities were great as usual. Can't wait to come back next year!
