It is a nice, relaxing tour. The base of the monument is free and a nice park area to walk around. I think it is worth the few bucks to go to the top. You get a great view and you can take as long as you like. Would be a shame to go to the island and miss this.

Don't trust the elevator if the electric goes out. Or you will have to walk all the way down 9/18/15

I knew very little about the War of 1812, not only is this a lovely memorial but an education opportunity. We enjoyed the 15 minute film about the battle that took place in Lake Erie, fascinating, and the wonderful displays in the visitors center. The guide at the center filled us in on more of the history about Commander Oliver... More

I love to visit Put-in-Bay on South Bass Island in Lake Erie. My favorite place there is Perry's Monument. The view from the top is spectacular. You can see the numerous surrounding islands scattered around the beautiful blue lake water. On a clear day you can see Canada and most of the Lake Erie shore from Michigan almost to Cleveland.... Visiting the memorial and visitors center is a worthwhile addition to your trip's plans. There is a brief video in the center that helps familiarize visitors with the history of the memorial. Paying the small fee ($3) to go to the top helps support the memorial and provides a vast view of the surrounding areas.

We were there for the fall colors and the monument was closed. I have already been to it and was able to go to the top. The views are incredible. The ladies were not disappointed, as they were able to take many photos from different angles. I cannot remember from the last time I was there but currently it appears... More

Try to get there in August for Commodore Perry's Birthday Celebration. We missed it but its a well known fact that the celebration last almost the entire month. This structure is beautiful now that renovations have been complete. For a small fee take the chute up to the top for a beautiful 360° view. One of the largest free standing... More

This is part of the national park system so different admission passes are honored. And stamps for your passport are available. In addition to the elevator ride to the top (expect long lines each direction), you can see displays throughout the main level. A gift shop offering souvenirs and historical information is available.

Great spot to view the Bass Islands and Lake Erie. Informational displays with detailed history and relics of Perry and the battles on Lake Erie. Clean restrooms, too.
