Theres plenty to see at South Bass Island, such as the Marblehead Lighthouse, the Cedar Point Amusement Park, and the William Perry Monument, and its fishing opportunities cant be beat, especially if you're fishing for Walleye and Perch.

This was a fun day trip for 4 people & 1 dog. The only reason I didn't give 5-stars is because a lot of the shops are filled with cheaper "touristy" klitsch & things are overpriced. It was a lot of fun riding around the...More

In September 2018, my wife and I spent a relaxing day at Put-In-Bay, Ohio, which is on an island in Lake Erie just north of Port Clinton/Catawba Island. Put-In-Bay/South Bass Island struck me as a mini-version of Mackinac Island except cars are allowed here. Some...More

Its a great very small island to see. not much of traffic. Rent a club car (Golf cart) and go everywhere in the island. It is the common mode of transport. Of course, you can take your car in the ferry. But, I would recommend...More

Hourly rate is roughly $20 per hour. I rented a 4 seat club car for a day for $95. This is as soon as you get off of ferry. If you go further into the city by walk, you might get it for little cheaper. I guess the... More

kayak adventure from Put in Bay to Gilbralter Island (0 Replies)
Hi there. My 20 year old college son and I are planning on doing a father son adventure in July. We plan on driving from Oberlin Ohio to Catawba Island, park the car, ride Miller's Ferry, take a taxi to the other side of Put in Bay, rent Kayaks and try to do the eye of the needle on Gibraltar Island. Then maybe grab a bite to eat and then return home. As of now I figure $70 a person not including food. Does anyone have any suggestions for our adventure. Discounts, Kayak companies, logistics,...More

Camping - Lake Erie Shores (3 Replies)
Good Evening, My wife and I would like to travel to the Port Clinton area in the June 2012 time frame. We want to visit South Bass Island during our visit. We were in this area several years ago and stayed at a campground called Cedarlane RV Park. If my memory serves me, it wasn't a bad place to camp. My question.....any suggestions for the area? Is Cedarlane still a reasonable place to stay or are there any alternative campgrounds in the area? We have a 25' trailer, so it doesn't make...More

Thinking of trip to Put in Bay over Labor Day weekend (8 Replies)
I am in Cincinnati and i'm considering comming up to Put in Bay for Labor Day weekend. Got a few questions. There may be me and three other guys. Would camping at South Bass Island State Park be good? What do you know about the campground? We are looking for low cost and camping is fun for us. How long of a walk would it be to the "downtown" area of Put in Bay. What are some of the bars/resturants that would be good idea to check out? When we arrive up there, where do we park and catch a...More

The campground is about a 15-20 minute walk to downtown where most of the bars are at. You can also take a cab anywhere on the island. There are plenty of them. As far as bars...my suggestions are The Roundhouse and The Boathouse. Their entertainment is usually the best. Depending on who is playing at The Beer Barrel you may want to check it out also. I am not a huge fan of The Barrel tho. As far as getting to the island. There is plenty of parking right next to each of the boat...More
