This quaint museum is rather a challenge to find as it is off the main trail in Port Clinton. They are located across from the Port Clinton Ida Rupp Library on Third St. You may not always find them open, but if you call the number on the door they could set up a time to meet you. The Ottawa County museum is full of interesting history for all you buffs. Its a great stop on a rainy or windy day.

You will find this lovely museum just across from the library in Port Clinton. Prepare to be surprised when you walk in! It's easy to spend hours learning about the illustrious history of not only this lake town, but of a county that has seen amazing events including the infamous Battle of Lake Erie with Oliver Hazard Perry. The curator has assembled an excellent volunteer staff who will assist you with research and information.

They really have a nice collection, but their hours are very limited. Also the location could be more visible. It appears to be run by volunteers who are very friendly and knowledgeable.

We had not been to this museum in fifteen+ years of visiting Ottawa County - we had been missing out. a group of a dozen or more visited on a normally-closed day (pre-arranged with the curator) to participate in a program about WWII POWs in Ottawa County - it turns out there were quite a number of them, and they were a vital part of the agricultural economy while the native sons and daughters were away at war and working in industrial plants. There are some very nice artifacts in this museum, which still needs some work on its exhibits and information cards.

Sure, this is a small museum and many of the exhibits are orientated to local history, they are still interesting to general visitors. Many artifacts relate to World War II and other military history. You will like this museum.
