The Firelands Historical Society has a wonderful museum campus. The house itself is a gem, full of items from Norwalk and residents. A must see during the Bicentennial year of the city. And the Laning Research Center offers a plethora of books and documents, and is staffed by geneology experts! …

For a small town museum, this place is quite good. Lots of Indian artifacts, a giant sloth bone with knife marks showing it that man ate giant sloth, and oodles of interesting Americana.

If you happen to be in this part of Ohio, you will see the word Firelands everywhere. This is the place where you will find out what it means. Fascinating history dating back to the Revolutionary War when this part of Ohio was actually part of Connecticut! This museum, housed in a beautiful two story home from the early 1800's, has a huge array of historical items on display. The displays are well labeled without being too wordy. I learned so much from the nice lady working there today. A must see if you are interested in early American history.…

Firelands Historical Society is the second-oldest historical society in Ohio, and Firelands Museum is the oldest museum in Ohio. This historic house is a great repository of local and area history. Each room has a different theme. The gun collection is one of the nation's finest.
